Position Title: Senior Scientist

Summary of Duties: Perform complex laboratory analysis of pharmaceutical products and proficiently use analytical instrumentation, calculate and analyze data and records data in adherence with PPD SOP's and the industry. Routinely act as the project leader on multiple projects, interact with clients, review and evaluate data, write reports and protocols. Responsible for the scientific conduct of the project and communication of regulatory issues with senior level team members. Independently perform method validations, method transfers and analytical testing of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems. Understand and conform to methods and protocols applicable to assigned tasks. Design and execute experiments with minimal supervision. Prepare study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents. Communicate data and technical issues to the client and respond to client needs and questions. Mentor, train and coordinate laboratory activities of other team members and assist in troubleshooting instrument and analytical problems. Assist with quality systems and new equipment. Assist in designing method validation or method transfer protocols and establish project timelines. Review, interpret, and analyze data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Perform self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Chemistry, Biological Systems Engineering, Engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience as Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant or other scientific laboratory related role. The employer will accept a Doctorate degree in Science, Chemistry, Biological Systems Engineering, Engineering or a related field as an alternative to a Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience. Must have experience with: General chemistry and separation science; Microsoft Excel and Word; Technical operating systems; Technical writing including Scientific Reports, Laboratory and Data Analysis Reports, or Documenting Experiments; Chromatography including Gas Chromatography (GC) and/or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation; Ultraviolet (UV) detection; and Liquid-liquid and liquid-solid solvent extractions. Experience can be gained through graduate level course work.
