Pediatrics, Child Protection Team

Full Time

This ARNP position will report directly to and work under the supervision of the Medical Director, Walter F. Lambert, M.D. This ARNP position will be responsible for the evaluation and documentation of alleged child maltreatment, clinical pediatric nursing, healthcare management, coordination of services, public speaking, trainings and utilization of community resources. This includes providing support both at the main office as well as satellite offices in south Dade and Monroe County.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide medical evaluations of children referred with allegations of child maltreatment:
  • Triage and provide initial assessments of children suspected of having been abused or neglected.

  • Review medical histories.

  • Provide follow up on hospitalized cases and review indicated imaging and laboratory results.

  • Arrange for out-patient studies or consults as indicated.

  • Assist in the development of treatment plans and coordinate the provision of services with public and private agencies.

  • Rotate on-call including weekends and holidays.

  1. Obtain comprehensive health history, including pertinent medical and psychosocial aspects appropriate to the age, life situations, and developmental stage of the patient:
  • Perform complete physical exam, including sexual abuse examinations when required.

  • Determine need for appropriate diagnostic studies, including imaging studies.

  • Assist social work staff in identifying behavioral problems and diagnoses and make treatment recommendations.

  • Provide a comprehensive report including the interview summary, detailed examination, completion of diagrams, and photo documentation within the contract standards time limits.

  • Must be available for 24 hour on-call rotation (including weekends and holidays).

  1. Assist in the coordination of the multiplicity of services required in the evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic referrals for abused or neglected children.
  • Document pertinent data and maintain up-to-date appropriate medical records on clients in accordance with agency policy and funding mandates/contractual standards. (CPT/VOCA)

  • Advocate and participate in the development of appropriate treatment plans.

  • Coordinate the provision of services with other agencies.

  • Document their activity in case progress notes in CPTIS.

  1. Remain current on child maltreatment literature, as well as policies and procedures related to abused children, including but not limited to, the Florida Statutes, VOCA guidelines and regulations and the DOH CPT Handbook:

• Participate in staff development

• Provide in-service and community training

• Attend outside training as available.

  1. Provide expert testimony via depositions and court testimony as required.

  2. Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Valid State of Florida APRN License

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
