Amazon Site WHS Manager - Sort Centre, AMZL WHS team in Melbourne, Australia

Description

We’re looking for a talented Site WHS Manager to join our team. You’ll be passionate about partnering with the business Sort Center team in Craigieburn to ensure WHS risks are managed. In this site we will expect you to continue to drive our Amazon WHS culture with the site leaders, and be instrumental in embedding Amazon WHS policies and processes and ensure compliance to all applicable local legislative obligations. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, you will lead continuous improvement to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our Associates. A successful Site WHS manager will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.

The Site WHS Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train Operations Leaders in Amazon WHS policies and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our safety standards at their site. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the occupational health and safety landscape. You will possess excellent safety program knowledge as well as ergonomic knowledge and be able demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations.

You will comfortable in working within a global company, and able to leverage from different parts of the world to support you in be successful in your role. The Site WHS Manager will lead other members in this role (e.g. Workplace Health and Safety Coordinators). You will create and execute leadership development plans for your team.

Key job responsibilities

  • Managing the health and safety function at the SC, including supervision of staff to ensure delivery of objectives.

  • Proactively engaging in collaborative health and safety projects across the site

  • Providing authoritative advice and guidance on health & safety matters to all stakeholders within designated area of responsibility.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable Amazon WHS Policies and Global Standards. Develop local site WHS procedures and processes to meet Amazon Global Standards

  • Completion of risk assessments related to WHS hazards.

  • Measure sites’ performance against published requirements in safety policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.

  • Analyze safety metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to rationalize the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the WHS risk is highest.

  • Perform frequent site WHS audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions.

  • Audit record-keeping practices and Global Safety Database (Austin) entries to be aligned with global safety standards and local regulations.

  • Lead and mentor Safety Associates or H&S representatives in your assigned facility and championing the site WHS committee

  • Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their WHS responsibilities under each policy.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of increasing responsibilities in WHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications and the use of pivot tables and the development of charts and graphics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Distribution Center or Manufacturing EHS with mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 250 people

  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
