Currently, we are looking for an Asset-Light Safety Specialist to join the ArcBest team. As an Asset-Light Safety Specialist, you will provide operational safety, compliance, and risk management for ArcBest Asset-Light services, independent contractors, and contract carriers and is responsible for monitoring safety performance and ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures, all applicable federal, state and local regulations, safety requirements and rules.

Your contribution may include:

  • Provide operational safety, compliance, and risk management for Asset-Light services, independent contractors, and contract carriers.

  • Monitor Asset-Light services independent contractor and contract carrier safety performance to ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures, all applicable federal, state and local regulations, safety requirements and rules.

  • Assess and identify risks to ArcBest Asset-Light, our customers, independent contractors, and the public.

  • Represent Asset-Light services and independent contractors with government and law enforcement agencies to promote the company’s positive and responsible public safety image.

  • Ensure that all commodities shipped with Asset-Light services are compatible with company policy, insurance requirements, state and federal regulations.

  • Provide leadership, expertise, guidance, and support regarding the development and implementation of operational safety policies, procedures, standards, and requirements to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, safety requirements and rules.

  • Enforce company safety policies and regulations to establish a culture of safety.

  • Facilitate dispute resolution and interpretation of safety policies and regulations.

  • Provide incident management, emergency response, assessment, recovery, and assist with the disposal/reclamation of hazardous materials/waste involved in a transportation incident.

  • Complete incident investigations, post-accident testing, reporting, and notification in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

  • Coordinate vehicle towing, repairs, and inspection of vehicles involved in an incident and Roadside Inspections (RSI) with violations to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.

  • Ensure proper securement, disposition, and reporting of cargo damaged in an incident, during transit or notated at pick-up and/or delivery.

  • Analyze safety metrics and review incidents to identify trends and recommend solutions to reduce risks and frequency.

  • Ensure all regulatory safety and compliance training is current and completed as required.

  • Monitor regulated and non-regulated independent contractor hours of service and compliance.

  • Coordinate the recovery and delivery of shipments with hours of service restrictions.

  • Ensure leadership and operations teams are trained and knowledgeable of their safety responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with management and operations teams to execute company safety policies and programs and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Serve as direct contact for independent contractors and contract carriers regarding Asset-Light services safety policies, procedures, questions and issues.

  • Assist with the continuous improvement, development, and management of company safety programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain professionalism in interactions with others and demonstrate the ability to build trust, overcome adversity, influence and inspire positive change.

  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, update management of changes, and implement policies and procedures to address.

  • Maintain confidentiality of legal, safety, and proprietary information.

  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As an Asset-Light Safety Specialist, you will be a member of the ArcBest Expedite Claims & Risk team in Medina, Ohio. Your hours will be Monday through Thursday, 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM, with irregular hours that may occur depending on work load. Service is provided 24/7/365.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred. Safety related degree or certification preferred.

  • Minimum, 5 years’ experience with DOT and FMCSA regulations or related safety experience in commercial motor vehicle management.

  • Previous Specialist experience, preferred.

  • Ability to obtain secret level clearance from the Department of Defense.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).

  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Regulations and compliance (49 CFS Parts 107, 171-180 and 390-397).

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
