UPMC Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor-PRN in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

Purpose:

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is a member of the multidisciplinary care delivery team. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care and has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of vocational counseling services. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with disabilities to set and achieve their employment goals and enhance their quality of life. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor empowers individuals with disabilities to achieve independence, self-sufficiency, and meaningful employment and demonstrates strong communication, empathy, compassion, and problem-solving abilities. Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate clients' readiness for employment based on mental health, physical abilities, aptitudes, interests, experience, and education. Understand individual strengths and limitations to tailor effective vocational rehabilitation plans. Create personalized rehabilitation plans, considering each client's unique abilities and circumstances. Address vocational challenges, including those acquired later in life. Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, mental health providers, and other stakeholders. Develop Individual Plans for Employment (IPEs) in collaboration with the care team. Facilitate sessions with family members and caregivers as needed to enhance understanding and support for clients' employment goals.

  • Locate and provide access to resources such as labor market information, government and non- governmental agency programs, computer software, mobility aids, and community support. Identify vocational training opportunities and assist clients with job applications and interview skills. Regularly monitor clients' progress and document changes. Adjust rehabilitation plans as needed based on their anticipated degree of recovery. Keep up to date with advancements in vocational rehabilitation therapy, occupational outlook, and labor force legislation.

  • Master's degree in vocational rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, social work, or a closely related field.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of mental and physical impairments, familiar with EMR documentation, MS Outlook and Teams.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor

  • Act 34
