Advance Local Impact Journalism Reporter in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania
Job Description
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are at the core of our mission to strengthen and empower the communities we serve.
PennLive is seeking an experienced journalist who can juggle daily and weekly story types with long-term, in-depth projects.
The ideal candidate would be able to identify and develop stories that resonate with our readers whether news analysis, investigative, in-depth features or solution journalism. They would be skilled in interviewing, source building, obtaining public records. And they would be experienced in telling stories using powerful writing and compelling video, photos, data and audio.
The job requires the ability to turn around daily stories and jump into breaking news, but your primary focus will be on impact stories. Some examples of impact journalism we’ve done recently range from stories on deaths in our county jail, a look at the lack of access to mental health care, and a look at why some state retirees are collecting six-figure pensions.
This position is remote; candidate should live in Pennsylvania.
This position pays between $62,000 to $70,000.
Job requirements include:
Degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum five years of reporting experience.
Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure
A willingness to experiment in different storytelling forms.
An ability to cultivate sources in government, advocacy groups, educational circles and other communities that comprise our readership.
A clear and engaging writing style.
An ability to work collaboratively with editors and fellow reporters on in-depth projects
Share samples of your best work or a list of story links when you apply.
This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
