Purpose Statement
The job of In-School Student Support Paraprofessional is to supervise students who have been
assigned to in-school suspension for disciplinary reasons. Responsibilities include monitoring
student behavior, assisting students with assignments, and communicating with staff to support
students academic and behavior goals. If no students are assigned to in-school suspension, this
position will help with other paraeducator or clerical duties.
Essential Functions
Monitor student behavior in the In-School Suspension room; reinforces appropriate
behavior and ensures that students stay on task. Continue learning activities for the
duration of the scheduled time.
Record student attendance.
Review in-school suspension policies, procedures, and expectations with students daily.
Provide individualized and small group instruction to support the learning needs of each
pupil.
Contact teachers to obtain homework assignments as needed. Reinforce classroom
learning activities.
Assist in preparing materials for students as requested by supervisors.
Grade student work for the purpose of assessing students progress as requested.
Communicate student performance with corresponding teachers and administration.
Maintain appropriate records and files of completed assignments.
Maintain a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
Utilize appropriate strategies to assist in de-escalating student behaviors as needed.
Refer behavior concerns to school administration.
Supervise groups of students during non-instructional times in order to ensure their
safety.
Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary.
Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills in order to ensure student
safety.
Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal
laws.
Other Functions
May provide clerical assistance to school staff members as time allows.
May provide paraeducator support in other areas of the building.
Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safe, effective, and
efficient functioning of the school.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise children.
Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Ability to learn school policies and procedures and effectively communicate them to
students.
Ability to develop a positive rapport and use patience with a diverse group of students.
Ability to make and carry out effective decisions concerning student behavior
management.
Ability to attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Computer proficiency and ability to work effectively in a learning environment.
Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person learning environments
Education, Certification
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
Previous work with adolescents strongly encouraged.
Physical Demands, Working Environment
Must enjoy a fast-paced environment
Can spend 80% of their day sitting and standing and 20% walking time may be spent
lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and using finger
dexterity.
Attendance Requirements
Must maintain regular and acceptable attend ance/punctuality as required by the Board of
Education policies and regulations.
Must be regularly available and willing to work 40 hours per week, or such other hours as
the district determines are necessary or desired.
