Job Description

Senior Government Affairs Manager

  • Based in the offices in Maidenhead with flexible working (3/2 model)

  • Reporting to the Head of Government Affairs.

Objective:

Lead, shape and execute multi-stakeholder Government Affairs (GA) strategies in full alignment with AbbVie brand and corporate objectives, integrated with the External Affairs team with a focus on positively shaping the environment to support patient access to medicines, building AbbVie’s external profile with relevant stakeholders and delivering our business priorities.

As a senior government affairs manager, you will be required to demonstrate a strategic approach to planning projects and advocacy programmes to shape the external environment. Working with both internal and external stakeholders you will have excellent communications skills and a proven ability to influence from a ‘patient first’ perspective. A track record of developing innovative and inventive approaches to shape external policy and engage stakeholders would also be desirable.

Highlighted key responsibilities include:

  • Design and lead assigned GA activities, building aligned multi-stakeholder strategies and platforms that make a valuable contribution to healthcare delivery, create consensus and demonstrate AbbVie’s commitment.

  • Build and execute AbbVie’s GA plans ensuring relevant insights and anticipated trends are provided to the company, securing opportunities to shape the external environment.

  • Use external insights to challenge business and brand strategies for improved delivery in line with our stakeholders’ expectations.

  • Expand and build durable external policy, political and wider stakeholder relationships for AbbVie in co-ordination with the wider External Affairs team and organisation.

  • Work across the External Affairs team to deliver impactful integrated strategies, compliantly delivering plans suitable to multiple audiences, utilized through multiple channels.

  • Lead policy priorities working closely with External Affairs colleagues to deliver the company’s Business Priorities.

Qualifications

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Direct experience of working in a parliamentary, political, advocacy or legislative role, preferably from a previous healthcare or life sciences focused role.

  • Demonstrated success in the influencing of legislation and policy.

  • In-depth knowledge of the UK health care system, including the National Health Service, Department of Health and Devolved Nations issues.

  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with health care policy makers politicians, patient stakeholders and other influencers.

  • Strong understanding of Government, Whitehall, healthcare and the NHS.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) to develop and convey strategies, policies, and action plans succinctly.
