Job Location: Louisville Medical Clinic  

General Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse renders nursing care in support of medical care as directed by a Physician or Nurse Practitioner in an office and/or clinical setting.

Essential Functions:

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will prepare patients for examinations according to the reason for the visit.
  • Performs initial patient triage that includes taking/recording vital signs, reason for visit, medication reconciliation, updating medical history, gathering medical records, if needed.
  • Assembles equipment and supplies in preparation for diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by provider.
  • Answers telephone, handles patient questions, does follow-up with provider as necessary, and relays messages.
  • Discharges patients and ensures all charges have been properly recorded on the patient encounter form.
  • Performs venipuncture and appropriate laboratory tests as ordered and as needed.
  • Maintains clean and orderly patient rooms, as well as a clean, orderly, and safe workplace and clinic facility.
  • Receive, record, and organize medication samples, dispose of outdated samples in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • Maintains a strong ethical code regarding patient's rights as evidenced in professional attitude/behavior (privacy, confidentiality, and empathy).
  • Uses proper procedure for disposal of contaminated and infectious items.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program with subsequent licensure.
  • One or two years of nursing experience preferred. Candidate must be comfortable utilizing a computer.
  • Current LPN licensure in the State of Mississippi and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • May obtain Tuberculosis (TB) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications, and Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) certification if desired.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Clean, well lit, and comfortable climate.
  • Potential exposure to contamination with blood or bodily fluids, requiring wearing protective equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching with arms, finger, and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Sitting, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling.
  • May be required to work unusual and additional shift hours.
  • Must be able to prioritize well in coordination with other disciplines and other levels of nursing staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills).
  • Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care.
