The Office of Research and Innovation is expanding its financial management team and seeks a detail and goal-oriented individual to join us as Unit Business Manager. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in our dynamic team, conducting monthly financial reviews and contributing to budget development across various sectors of our rapidly growing research enterprise. Apply now to join the Research & Innovation team!Position reviews monthly financials looking for irregularities and evaluating projected yearend balances. Serve as the Office of Research & Innovation department contact for assigned departments reviewing financial standing on a regular basis and escalate items to UBM Sr as needed. Monthly review of projected speedtype deficits along with asset and liability balances. Serve as a contact for pre and post award grant management. Assist UBM Sr with the budget development process as needed each fiscal year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Review monthly financials in a timely manner. Work with UBM Sr and department contact to identify irregularities and evaluate forecasted encumbrances for reasonableness, to take advantage of any fiscal resources that may be available to them during the current fiscal year. Monthly review of speedtypes with projected yearend deficits investigating causes for projected deficit. Monthly review of speedtype asset and liability balances to identify any unsubstantiated balances. Serve as the Office of Research & Innovation contact for less complex in size and scope departments. Meet with departments on a regular basis to review current financial standings and address department concerns. Escalate any issues or concerns from consultation with UBM Sr and resolution with department.Assist UBM Sr during the budget development process to develop all new year operating budgets based on a combination of historical data, feedback from department heads regarding requested changes and the outlook for future updates and the current budget circumstances of the University. Serve as a contact for pre and post award grant management.Assist with preparation of month end journal entries.Create and prepare ad hoc reporting and materials for leadership reviews.Review and audit of procard transactions monthly.Assist with special projects when necessary.Preferred Qualifications Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet multiple, competing deadlines.Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.Proven self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversight.Experience working with financial systems and the Microsoft Office suite.Experience with research operations.Organized, task-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail.Positive teamwork skills.Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively to build relationships.Evaluate and analyze data to build strategic recommendations.Strong critical thinking skills.Competencies Proactive - anticipates and plans for problems before they arise.Service Excellence - responsive, informs constituents of process, pleasant to work with, educates and provides timely, accurate information.Organized - manages time effectively, keeps tasks appropriately prioritized.Critical Thinking - ability to think through issues and identify appropriate options.Work Ethic - motivated, diligent, industrious, and persistent in the workplace, stays on tasks to completion, works at a fast pace to ensure optimal efficiency.Interpersonal - can build effective, strong working relationships with employees, colleagues, management and vendors through trust, communication, and credibility.Teamwork - ability to work with others, help others, lead others, mentor others, take directions from others in the interest of moving process and programs forward to the desired outcome.
