We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as the Assistant Dean of the School of Science. This key administrative role involves the oversight and supervision of all operational activities within the SOS. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our school, addressing the needs of our approximately 900 students, supporting our faculty across eight departments, and managing the dean's office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Oversight:

  • Manage and supervise services within the School of Science.

  • Handle issues related to SOS academics, faculty, and students.

  • Supervise the SOS Office Coordinator and the SOS Student Coordinator.

  • Oversee registration processes, including permissions and overrides.

  • Student and Parent Relations:

  • Address concerns related to graduation clearance, academic advisement, registration, summer class approval, transfer credit evaluation, and cross-registration.

  • Ensure compliance and satisfaction in interactions with students and parents.

  • Student Advising:

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to students, particularly in light of changing core and major requirements.

  • Support and guide advisors, confirming their advisements and handling complex advising scenarios.

  • Stay updated on curriculum changes and effectively communicate these to students and advisors.

  • Calm students' fears and anxieties by providing accurate and timely information.

  • Staff Supervision:

  • Train and supervise the office coordinator and student coordinator.

  • Manage interactions among diverse personalities with tact and diplomacy.

  • Implement and oversee a Performance Development Plan for staff reporting to the Assistant Dean.

  • Faculty and Staff Support:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for faculty and staff regarding academic and college-wide procedures and policies.

  • Ensure smooth and effective communication and collaboration within the SOS.

Annual Salary: $61,500.00

The hiring salary above represent the College's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's is preferred

  • Extensive experience in academic administration, preferably within a higher education setting.

  • Strong understanding of academic advising and student support services.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in supervising staff and managing office operations.

  • Experience with standard word processing and spreadsheet programs; familiarity with registration platforms like Banner preferred.

  • Ability to handle emergencies and maintain composure under pressure.

A background screening will be required.
