Robert Half Patient Financial Counselor in Los Angeles, California

Description We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Patient Financial Counselor in the healthcare and social assistance industry. Located in Los Angeles, California, this role involves working within the hospital setting to ensure the smooth operation of revenue cycles and hospital reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Review revenue reports and ensure discharge billing is accurate and efficient

• Utilize expertise in insurance authorizations and collections

• Conduct audits of medical claims against established criteria for all types of payors, including HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, Research, and Workers Compensation

• Review and reconcile encounters on the DNFB/EBEW reports, focusing on reducing the Patient Access DNFB (Discharged, Not Final Billed)

• Work on past due encounters with charges daily, identifying if activation of the encounter is appropriate or escalating the encounter for review

• Review and audit claims for coding accuracy, benefits payment, and compliance through understanding of requirements for financially clearing patients for transfer or admission

• Interpret and comprehend insurance benefits and division of responsibility (DOFR) for all types of payors

• Ensure appropriate plan code usage and all elements required for clean claim submission that supports Revenue Cycle Goals and initiatives

• Analyze audit results to determine root cause of errors and recommend process improvements

• Review error trends to identify training opportunities

Skills required include Medical Billing, Medical Terminology, Insurance Authorization, Patient Financial Services, HMO PPO, Hospital Admissions, Hospital Billing, and Hospital Inpatient. Requirements • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in patient financial services.

• Proficiency in medical billing and medical terminology is required.

• Knowledge of insurance authorization procedures, specifically for HMO and PPO plans.

• Familiarity with hospital admissions and inpatient billing procedures.

• Experience with patient financial counseling or similar roles within a hospital or healthcare setting.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

• Proficiency in using hospital billing software and other relevant computer applications.

• Commitment to providing high-quality service to patients and their families.

• Knowledge of relevant healthcare laws and regulations.
