The Senior Manager, Technical Business Development owns external engagements for Division X and operates as a future-focused conduit, identifying opportunities to create, grow, and protect our market position. You will lead a team that bridges the gap between technical possibilities and commercial realities. You will use your deep technical knowledge, horizon scanning ability, and creativity to think big and deliver customer outcomes. This role is not sales-focused but requires some core transferable skills from sales such as networking, relationship management, negotiation, and deal execution.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identifies, develops, and champions strategies to drive new business opportunities in nascent technology environments, ensuring alignment with client needs and organisational goals across a range of products and services. 

  • Combines deep technical knowledge with commercial acumen and high agency, to identify viable solutions before stakeholders have identified a potential problem statement or opportunity. 

  • Operates in the undefined and with a multitude of unknown unknowns, using trusted internal and external networks to keep up to date with unpublished market developments. 

  • Leverage partnerships with resellers, system integrators, hyperscalers, distributors, and other tech companies to provide access to new markets and scale the impact of sales. 

  • Creates market-defining external engagements (e.g. alliances, partnerships, joint ventures) to achieve and execute against the overall Business strategy. 

  • Builds and maintains high-quality, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, taking primary responsibility for conversion into the solution development and sales funnel. 

  • Leads the creation of strategies and business case mechanisms, driving team analysis to identify and capitalize on value-creating opportunities for Business CFUs. 

  • Mentors and manages a high-performing team, fostering engagement and capability development, while also leading continuous improvement efforts for business development processes.

Skills and experience

  • Technical Expertise: Experience of working in highly technical environments and comfortable interacting with solution architects and engineering. Preferred candidates will have experience in cellular and fixed networks, SaaS, APIs, or Edge computing.

  • Business Development: Demonstrated ability to think strategically about commercial, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build compelling business cases and work cross-organisationally to drive agreement.

  • Executive Engagement: Experience collaborating with senior executives on significant co-development and partnership deals.

  • Strategic Business Planning: Proficiency in strategic planning, negotiating, and implementing corporate and business transactions.

  • Agile Methodology: Proficiency in Agile practices and business process improvement.

  • Team Leadership: Proven track record in mentoring, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.

  • Negotiation Skills : Strong skills in negotiation and deal-making.

  • Continuous Learner : You should have a vision of the future that you are continuously refining and evolving. You should be curious about each partner and invest time to understand their solutions, company culture, and long-term aspirations. 

  • Relationship Builder: Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to quickly earn trust with stakeholders.
