Description:
Encourage and Support Patient Mobility during hospital stay.
General Summary
Under the direction of the rehabilitation department, to assist in the mobility and ambulation of patients to maintain each patient's functional ability while hospitalized. To assist with the early mobilization of the hospitalized adult patient population. The Mobility Tech provides routine mobilization of patients within their assigned departments, which includes duties such as mobilizing patients to walk the hall, assisting patients to a chair for meals, utilizing lifts to assist bed bound patients to a chair, and understanding/acquiring vital signs as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with ambulation of patients using various assistive devices (such as gait belts and walkers) as needed and appropriate.
Assists therapy staff with evaluation and treatment sessions, including providing physical assistance with patient transfers.
Aids in increasing walking capacity for the patients who meet criteria for ambulation.
Assists patients with achieving the maximal level of independence before discharge.
Assists patients with ROM/strengthening, coordination, posture, and balance.
Documents patient sessions in EMR.
Takes initiative in reporting patient needs, abnormal findings, and condition changes to Registered Nurse
Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
Cares for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace.
Communicates with RN regarding any changes in patient condition.
Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.
Constructively receives feedback and direction.
Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the unit.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team.
Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions.
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues.
Documents activities performed in the medical record according to established procedures.
Establishes appropriate and effective communication with other departments.
Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and family members.
Identifies and communicates learning needs to supervisor.
Provides patient care including assisting with daily patient ambulation unique to each patient’s needs.
Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information.
Suggests and supports changes within assigned unit.
Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives.
Works collaboratively with Rehabilitation Services and Nursing Staff to provide proper patient mobility and ambulation.
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Basic computer knowledge.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Displays excellent customer service skills.
Good communication skills.
