NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:
$208,400 - $354,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a Senior Manager (job title: Senior Manager, R&D Scienc SG.) This group (8220) is located in California. Several existing ND services and capabilities will be brought together to form a new organization: ND Engineering Services and Capabilities (8220). This new organization will include Sandia Programs Engineering Assembly and Research (SPEAR), Test Assembly Group (TAG), Environmental Test, Calibration, the Machine Shop, Cable Fabrication, and Additive Manufacturing (current depts. 8264, 8524, 8524-1, and 8525). In addition to constructing hardware builds, 8220 staff will perform system and subsystem testing for qualification and integration needs at the system level.
As a new group, Org. 8220 will look to strategically partner with their New Mexico counterparts to develop unique infrastructure that builds Sandia’s resilience for these activities while simultaneously avoiding duplication. While this infrastructure will directly support the needs of SNL’s ND programs, it is expected that it will also provide services that others at the California site can leverage.
The selected candidate will oversee approximately 70 employees within the three departments of 8220. On any given day, you may be called on to:
Manage operations to include planning, directing, and organizing the production of complex integrated engineering products
Ensure that customer needs are satisfied safely and securely, through managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements
Supervise and manage members of the workforce within the organization, including hiring, professional development, and assessment and performance management, consistent with the mission of the organization
Possess a deep understanding of safety and security as it relates to its intimate integration with operations
Foster a culture of inclusion and take an active leadership role in modeling and growing values in diversity, equity, and inclusion
Advocate for needs of department through levels of management, within internal and external program offices and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)
Lead continuous improvement initiatives including development and implementation of new technology and processes as they specifically relate to advanced manufacturing
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Qualifications We Require:
Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and 6 years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline and 10 years of related experience; or PhD in relevant discipline and 2 years of related experience
Minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience
Experience collaborating with NNSA laboratories and/or production entities
Demonstrated ability to deliver complex integrated engineering products
Experience presenting to large audiences and/or senior or executive leadership
Experience managing or leading operations involving ES&H and/or security challenges
Experience leading high rigor activity level work, which includes executing safety and security as it relates to its integration with operations
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Five years of experience as a first level manager, including line management experience over activity level work
Experience collaborating with DOE/Federal Agency program oversight personnel
Knowledge and experience operating in a DOE direct funded program
Proficiency in high security manufacturing operations
Experience with acquisition, construction project management, commissioning, and planning related to machine tools and other technical manufacturing capabilities and supporting infrastructure
Demonstrated understanding of structured management assurance systems
Experience in product lifecycle management and configuration management
Experience leading/initiating continuous improvement activities (e.g., lean six sigma events, demand planning studies, structured improvement activities)
Demonstrated experience partnering with facilities to oversee infrastructure improvements and equipment installation
Ability to work with sensitive information and classified matter
Strong interpersonal skills, including people management, written and oral communications, and ability to negotiate
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers, including the ability to build and manage effective working relationships
Demonstrated ability to deliver results, effectively manage people, and guide multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated ability to motivate employees, handle personnel issues and resolve conflicts
Ability to develop a culture of inclusion and take an active leadership role in modeling and growing values in diversity, equity, and inclusion

Center 8200 supports Sandia's nuclear weapons mission, performing weapon system design, stockpile stewardship, and scientific research for the National Nuclear Security Administration. The center leads efforts that enable the laboratory to assess the safety, security, and reliability of the nuclear stockpile while leading efforts to aid in its modernization, specifically the W80-4.

Security Clearance:
