Lockheed Martin AI Hardware/Software Security and Compliance Specialist – AI Red Team in Littleton, Colorado

Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Artificial Intelligence Engineer to join our Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team. As a key member of our Red Team, you will play a critical role in developing technologies and products that leverage Artificial Intelligence to provide discriminating capability to our customers.

The AI Red Team ensures the safety, security, compliance, and resilience of AI systems across their lifecycle. We take a proactive, adversarial approach to testing, evaluating, and certifying AI models and infrastructure against data risks, adversarial threats, hardware/software vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements. Our multidisciplinary team—spanning data, algorithms, hardware/software, and ML frameworks—works to develop security frameworks, enforce best practices, and drive responsible AI adoption.

About the Role:

As an AI Hardware/Software Security and Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in testing, securing, and certifying AI systems at the hardware, firmware, and software levels. You will conduct security assessments of AI infrastructure, evaluate hardware/software vulnerabilities, and develop security frameworks to protect AI deployments from emerging threats.

You will collaborate closely with AI developers, AI/ML platform team, and control partners to embed security, compliance, resilience, and responsible AI principles, ensuring AI systems are built and deployed with security-first principles rather than retrofitted after development.

Key Responsibilities:

● Conduct security assessments of AI hardware/software infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and risks.

● Evaluate firmware, runtime environments, accelerators (e.g., GPUs, TPUs), cloud/on-prem AI infrastructure, and software supply chain practices for potential security gaps.

● Partner with AI developers, platform engineers, and security teams to integrate from start the ethical AI principles into AI model development and deployment.

● Develop testing frameworks and security best practices for LLMs, AI models, and multi-layer network security zones to protect against adversarial attacks.

● Ensure AI systems meet regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 23894, GDPR, CCPA, EU AI Act etc.).

● Stay ahead of emerging threats, attack techniques, and security technologies in AI and ML infrastructure.

The selected candidate can work remotely, or at any major Lockheed Martin facility.

Basic Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

● Hands-on working experience with cloud/on-prem AI infrastructure and secure software development principles.

● Hands-on experience in hardware/software security testing, vulnerability assessment, and securing AI systems.

● Proficiency in programming languages (Python, C++, C) and cloud security (AWS, Azure).

● Knowledge of MLOps, LLMOps, and cloud security architectures and with supplementary experience in security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST AI RMF, Secure SDLC, OWASP, Zero Trust).

Desired Skills:

● Knowledge of AI/ML developmental frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

● Understanding of adversarial AI threats, secure model deployment, and LLM security risks.

● Prior experience in penetration testing, or AI adversarial testing is a strong plus.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $118,700 - $209,300. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
