Job Title: Welder Operator

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Welder Operator to set up, operate, and tend to robotic welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing metal surfaces, performing post-weld grinding, and ensuring all work meets visual and aesthetic standards while maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, or tend robotic welding machines.

  • Select, position, align, and bolt jigs, holding fixtures, guides, or stops onto machines using measuring instruments and hand tools.

  • Prepare metal surfaces or workpieces using grinders, cutters, or drills.

  • Read and understand basic blueprints, complete welder set-up procedures, and perform routine preventative maintenance.

  • Perform post-weld grinding and weld cleanup to meet visual and aesthetic standards.

  • Maintain safe work habits and a clean work area in compliance with all safety policies.

  • Lift and load workpieces into the machine.

  • Activate manual part clamps to secure workpieces.

  • Use control mechanisms to operate machines or processes (excluding vehicles).

  • Review blueprints to determine finished workpiece dimensions.

  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.

  • Observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources and provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates.

  • Identify when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, recognizing potential issues during machine operation.

  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.

  • Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents, solutions, or water.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with robotic welding.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Knowledge of welding machine setup and operation.

  • Proficiency in using hand-operated equipment such as grinders, cutters, and drills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet visual and aesthetic standards.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address issues.

  • Effective communication skills to convey information to supervisors and team members.

  • Physical ability to lift and load workpieces.

Work Environment

The work hours are from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The work environment includes the use of robotic welding machines, various hand-operated equipment, and adherence to all safety policies. The dress code requires appropriate safety gear and attire suitable for a welding environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.
