The MITRE Naval Aviation Systems Department’s (N233) mission is to advance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency, ensuring warfighter dominance against current and future adversaries in defense of our nation. This is accomplished by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure the warfighter’s mission success and safe return home.

Job Description:

  • Apply full range of knowledge to maintain technical security of information systems processing classified information.

  • Work in a classified environment where there are government compliance audits.

  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and secure systems and network devices to comply with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

  • Maintain records on workstations, servers, routers, firewalls, network switches, etc. to include system upgrades.

  • Update servers, clients, applications, antivirus updates, maintain Active Directory, DNS, apply security patches, Continuous Monitoring logging, SCAP, etc.

  • Troubleshoot applicable systems such as Window 10/Sever 2012/2016, Linux operating systems, client-server architectures, virtualization technologies.

  • Assist ISSM/ISSO with coordination between sponsors, MITRE project leaders, and MITRE’s accreditation officials to obtain formal accreditation to operate classified information systems.

  • Research new hardware / software products to acquire life cycle replacements and maintain software licenses.

  • Independently identify relevant technologies/topics and learn new technical skills.

  • Collaborate with government, industry, and vendors to develop cyber resiliency approaches, requirements, metrics, thresholds, and objectives.

  • Assist in the evaluation, development, testing, and implementation of cyber resiliency processes and approaches.

  • Recommend mitigation tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) for identified threats within the sponsor's environment.

  • Develop innovative offerings and identify opportunities for cyber capabilities by applying strategic and technical knowledge of network environments, information warfare, regulations, and specific domain requirements.

  • Conduct cyber mission dependency, criticality, and adversary analyses to inform design and support cost decisions for a resilient solution.

  • Leverage your cybersecurity knowledge, creative thinking, and technical skills to tackle a diverse range of challenges crucial to our sponsor's mission success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically, Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or related discipline and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of related education, certifications and work experience.

  • In accordance with DoD 8570.01M, the selected individual must meet the requirements of an IAT Level II as a condition of employment and computing environment training/certification.

  • Security+ certification

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.

  • Familiarity with government security standards, policies, and procedures.

  • In-depth knowledge of cyber threats for networks and systems of systems, with proven experience in implementing effective solutions.

  • Strong understanding of cyber security frameworks and methodologies.

  • Ability to conduct research and develop cyber resiliency strategies.

  • Advanced cyber threat analysis and mitigation strategies.

  • Experience engaging with senior government leaders and stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.

  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies and concepts.

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

  • Advanced expertise in cyber engineering, including but not limited to:

  • Deep understanding and application of cryptographic algorithms and protocols.

  • Proficiency in reverse engineering and debugging techniques, utilizing tools like Ghidra and IDA Pro.

  • Experience in developing and implementing Zero Trust security architectures.

  • Strong knowledge of defensive cyber operations and security automation

  • Familiarity with cyber exercise and wargame planning, including scenario development.

  • Expertise in secure software development practices and DevSecOps methodologies.

  • Proficiency in network security, intrusion detection systems, and security information event management (SIEM) tools.

  • Experience in vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.

  • Understanding of cloud computing security principles and containerization technologies.

  • Knowledge of emerging cybersecurity technologies and trends, including artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.

  • Advanced proficiency in relevant programming languages such as Python, C, C++, and experience with CUDA for GPU programming.

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills, with the ability to apply digital engineering principles to cybersecurity solutions.

  • Experience with SysML modeling and simulation in Cameo.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$118,000 - $147,500 - $177,000 Annual
