National Archives and Records Administration Archives Technician in Lees Summit, Missouri

Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Federal Records Centers Program. The incumbent works under the supervision of a supervisor or team leader, and performs various duties related to the safeguarding, delivery, transfer, reference, and accessioning or disposition of records, and provides assistance to agency customers. Responsibilities As an Archives Technician, you will: Provide reference services in a warehouse environment by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; and refile or interfile records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc. Perform various duties related to searching, retrieving, refiling, shelving, removing, and screening Federal records and preparing them for shipment to customers. Complete work products affect the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further records center processes, and services to customer agencies. Perform duties in a supportive manner of a safe working environment while physically performing the loading and unloading of records in various containers in a warehouse environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Work will be performed in a warehouse setting. This position requires candidates to pass a Physical Abilities Test. The work is performed on loading docks or in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing 15' pulpit ladders, and lifting boxes of records weighing 30-50 lbs. is required. You must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR You may substitute education for general experience as follows: 2 years of education above high school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
