Study Group Student Support Officer (Welfare & Learning Support) in Leeds, United Kingdom

Location: Leeds, Leeds International Study Centre

Contract Type: Full Time – Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

Salary: £23,400 per annum

Leeds International Study Centre and its programmes are provided by Study Group in collaboration with the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University. 

You will be part of the Welfare and Learning Support Team within the wider Student Support Team at the Leeds International Study Centre working with the existing Welfare and Learning Support Officers supporting the welfare and learning needs of students. You will need to be highly organised, with strong IT skills and a background in student support, ideally with international students.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

  • Manage a case load of high-level welfare and wellbeing student concerns

  • To provide 1:1 welfare and pastoral support to students, referring them for additional support where required from external services

  • To undertake bi-weekly welfare case conferences

  • Create and monitor Agreed Support Plans for students

  • To ensure effective case management of all welfare concerns and students with learning differences, health conditions and/or disabilities

  • To be a first point of contact for any member of staff who has a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a student.

  • To monitor daily attendance in line with the Student Whereabouts Policy, including monitoring Under 18s and vulnerable students.

  • To collaborate with the wider ISC to advocate for and embed inclusive practice within the classroom, including assisting in staff development

  • Create and develop welfare materials for students

  • To assist, where necessary, in the delivery of Progression and Student Success tutorials

  • To assist in organising and delivering student induction with the wider Student Experience team

  • To deal with general student queries – face to face, by email and phone

  • To foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Any other duties as required by Student Support Coordinator (Welfare and Learning Support), the Head of Student Support or the wider Senior Leadership Team

  • To adhere to all compliance requirements in relation to GDPR, UKVI requirements, Safeguarding and Health and Safety.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Level 3 Qualification (or equivalent experience)

  • Experience of supporting individuals with Learning Differences, health conditions and/or disabilities

  • Experience of providing wellbeing advice and guidance to students or clients

  • Experience of working cooperatively with and motivating others

  • Experience of working with students or clients for whom English is a second language or from international background

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Knowledge of higher education and the student wellbeing issues associated

  • The ability to diversify communication and support to individuals based on their needs and cultural background

  • High level communication skills with an ability to communicate with key stakeholders including students in a professional and helpful manner

  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlines whilst maintaining a professional and calm manner
