YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

  • The candidate will provide technical leadership into assigned projects and be expected to guide/mentor the design team to achieve its deliverables. Projects being delivered will be for a range of clients, including Network Rail, Contractors, Developers & HS2 Preparation of technical outputs to the highest standards in accordance with the WSP’s quality management system.

  • Engaging with and developing good working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including Network Rail / local authorities / Tier 1 contractor’s clients and other disciplines.

  • Check and approval of technical work by the design team.

  • Resolving technical civil and structural engineering issues.

  • Leading and assisting with the preparation of documentation relating to project delivery.

  • Manage and check the production of drawings, reports and specifications.

  • Produce scope and management of surveys on site and acting as Responsible Manager, as required.

  • Undertake CRE/CEM responsibilities on Rail projects.

  • Manage design delivery teams.

  • Be fully compliant with relevant Health, Safety and Welfare regulations.

  • Undertaking the necessary design (calculations, design, risk assessments, etc.) supported by other team members including engineers, technicians to produce the required design deliverable outputs.

  • Providing technical support to junior engineers and support their career development.

  • Input to and preparation of bids and proposals. Leading inputs and managing, as required.

  • Management and ownership of project tasks

  • Opportunity to work on a variety of projects in the railway industry from early conceptual design through to construction. Projects will range from a number of smaller projects to large multi-million pound projects. Projects include, HS2, Re-Signalling Schemes, Station Platform, DC/AC Electrification schemes, Train Depot, Bridge repair, Station Access for All and level crossing schemes.

  • Growth opportunity through the engineering grades with dedicated support from a mentor and other more experience colleagues. A training and development plan will be tailored to suit your progression with quarterly progress review by your mentor. We support career progression to become ICE member at CEng.

  • Hybrid working arranges.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Experience of working in the UK rail industry. Typically, a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the rail sector.

  • Experience acting as a Civil Engineer CRE and CEM.

  • Experience in delivering and managing all stages of multi-disciplinary engineering projects from initial studies through to detailed design.

  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers

  • Working knowledge of NR standards, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes and Codes of Practice.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate with a variety of audience using different mediums.

  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising planners, designers, engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance to less experienced members of the team.

  • Able to manage your own time to meet project deadlines and budget targets.

  • Ability to manage project tasks and communicate the status clearly.

  • Site experience in the Railway environment.

  • Ability to respond to Project Manager and Client requests and meet challenging deadlines.

  • Experience working in some of the below areas:

  • Re-signalling and electrification projects.

  • Level crossing renewal projects.

  • Railway Depot and Station design – AfA, platforms, station buildings and canopy design.

  • General Rail lineside civils works i.e., Ancillary structures, UTX/URX, cable containment.

  • Structural design in concrete and steel structures i.e., railway structures such as signal gantry, OLE supports.

  • Bridge design, refurbishment and strengthening schemes.

  • Structural inspection & assessments.

  • Temporary work designs.

  • Experience of delivering GRIP 1-5 stage projects.

  • ProjectWise experience in project delivery.
