Lebanon Transit Authority Bus Detailer in Lebanon, Pennsylvania

TITLE: Bus Detailer (Cleaning and Maintenance)

 

HOURS: 4:00 PM-12:30 AM

 

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement

 

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness of Lebanon Transit (LT) equipment, facilities, terminal, and other satellite locations.
  • Perform house cleaning duties on all buses and vans as per the current house cleaning schedule or as directed by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement.  All other cleaning duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement.
  • If it is determined by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement that conditions require an increase in frequency of major house cleaning that requirement shall be met.  No cleaning is to be deferred until a schedule indicates it is time to perform the cleaning of the vehicle. If a vehicle is dirty it is to be cleaned immediately.
  • This position receives training and works according to LT standards.
  • All employees are accountable for maintaining a safe working environment.
  • This position is responsible for meeting all attendance requirements.

     

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

  • Perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • This position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement and takes direction from the Senior Mechanic.

     

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain house cleaning duties on all LT vehicles, equipment, buildings and grounds;
  • Daily house cleaning; exterior washing, interior sweeping, mopping, window washing, cleaning dashes, etc.;
  • Major house cleaning; includes the daily duties plus cleaning behind seats with air hose, washing down walls and ceilings, scrubbing floors, etc.;
  • Responsible parking/driving revenue and non-revenue vehicles in the storage garage;
  • Perform fluid checks on all vehicles;
  • Probe and remove all monies from fareboxes;
  • Check and replenish engine fluids (water and oils);
  • Check and replace bulbs;
  • Fueling and record keeping of fuel dispensed for revenue and non-revenue vehicles;
  • Driving vehicles through automatic bus wash;
  • Assist mechanics when needed;
  • Provide general cleanup of all LT properties;
  • Keep bus shelters clean and in good condition;
  • Empty cigarette containers;
  • Assist with landscaping duties as needed at all LT Properties;
  • Spread oil absorbing material and remove same when needed;
  • Make sure pavements on LT properties and bus shelters are clear of snow and ice when necessary. Use snow blower and spread ice melting chemicals as needed;
  • Maintain a safe, clean maintenance area. This includes but is not limited to cleaning up oil and fuel spills and washing down floors, etc.;
  • Sweep and wash down floor and unclog drains in all garage areas when needed.  Keep drain free of mud and sludge;
  • Any and all other tasks deemed necessary by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement.

     

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow directions and perform light maintenance duties;
  • Ability to complete reports using computer;
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and follow oral/written instructions that are provided in English;
  • Valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License at a  minimum;
  • Some mechanical experience helpful;
  • Must have own basic hand tools;
  • Ability to use and care for LT tools and equipment;
  • High school education preferred;
  • Work some Saturdays as required due to scheduling. Must be available to work overtime when requested by Supervisor of Maintenance and Procurement;
  • Have the drive and desire to become a team player with the best interest of LT in mind.

     

PHYSICALS, CE TIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Must hold and maintain a current United States Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Certification or employment will be terminated;
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to all DOT and Lebanon Transit Substance Abuse Policy requirements that include but are not limited to; Pre-Employment, Random, Post-Accident and Reasonable Suspicion Tests.

     

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative (may not be all inclusive) of those functions to be met by an employee to successfully perform his/her job duties:

  • This position could require exertion in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to use necessary tool and to move objects;
  • This position requires the dexterity and mobility to enter and exit a number of different vehicle while maintaining three points of contact;
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects safely, usually no more than 50 lbs. but occasionally with weights in excess of 100 lbs.;
  • While performing the duties of this job, there is prolonged standing, with intermittent periods of sitting, short walking, and various trunk positions have to be maintained for prolonged periods when cleaning/detailing vehicles;
  • Must be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push and pull as necessary to carry out job duties;
  • Requires the ability to use hands to finger dexterously to operate tools or controls and reach with hands and arms;
  • This position also requires employee to perform cleaning, janitorial, building and property maintenance functions with appropriate dexterity;
  • This position requires employee to work in various weather environments, summer, winter, spring, and fall as well as inside and outside of garaged area.
