LAYTON CITY Part-Time Recreation Facility Manager in LAYTON, Utah

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of entry level, general administrative and technical duties as needed to coordinate the day-to-day operation of one or more City recreation facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Promotes and follows the City's mission statement, values, and expectations. 

Directly responsible for the supervision of part-time facility staff; assures compliance with established policies and procedures for opening, running, maintaining, and closing recreation facilities.

Supervises the on-site operation of a variety of recreation programs and activities including; basketball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, softball, football, pickleball, arts & crafts, gymnastics, tours, family recreation, track, Arts in the Park, etc.

Assures facilities are properly equipped for currently running recreation programs; monitors shift personnel work activities to assure quality and efficient performance of duties; performs facility stocking and follow-up as needed to assure the facility is properly equipped and maintained for continuing recreation program use.

Monitors facility policies and procedures related to patron use, fees, safety, etc.; oversees shift activities to assure compliance with management control plans as needed to minimize risk and liability. 

Monitors inventory of office and program supplies (i.e. first aid, facility maintenance equipment, custodial items, etc.).

Assures timely delivery of public notices and announcements as needed to afford target populations opportunity for participation.

Directs and performs general upkeep and custodial duties during scheduled shift; cleans facility floors, mops, sweeps, vacuums, polishes, etc.

Provides immediate supervision over recreation activities and seasonal, temporary, or volunteer personnel; oversees coaches, recreation specialists, program leads and officials, and conducts training as needed; may officiate, referee games, or assist in coaching; maintains daily statistics for leagues and tournaments.

Assists in public relations by interacting with facility users including participants, spectators, staff, officials, school representatives, etc. in a kind and professional manner. 

Assists in program planning, implementation, and evaluation to help ensure successful program implementation, development, and future growth. Handles on-site complaints from coaches, participants, organizations; assists in negotiations to achieve solutions, which better the recreation programs and services.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.         Education and Experience:

a.         Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties; 

AND 

b.         Two (2) years of recreation program administration, physical education teaching,

             coaching, or related experience;

            OR

c.         An equivalent combination of education and experience.

         2.       Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      Some knowledge of the methods and techniques of developing and operating recreation programs; of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation programming; team sports management; special events; community and public relations; rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreational activities; of equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a compr ehensive community recreation program; the operation of personal computers and various software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, etc.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations, and the public; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

   3.       Special Qualifications:

            Must have (or obtain) first aid, AED, and CPR certification within 3 months of hire.

            Must possess a valid driver's license. 

         4.       Wor Environment:

Incumbent of the position performs in a non-typical office, gymnasium setting.  Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting, talking, hearing, and seeing essential to effective performance of essential functions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and creative problem solving. Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
