Job Summary and Qualifications

The OR Clinical Coordinator is responsible for Surgical Services staff education and optimal use of computer systems applications. This includes providing and coordinating staff education of all computer systems in use throughout Surgical Services, including system upgrades and updates education, education to maintain staff competency including annual skills lab, and education of all new equipment and supplies utilized within Surgical Services. Responsible for ensuring integrity of the Electronic Health Care record utilized within Surgical Services through periodic audits. Department

Kronos/time keeper data entry, maintaining and storing time keeping records. Creates and maintains NPR and department reports to provide statistics/data for Administration, QI/QM, Finance, Surgical Services and special projects, including staffing reports for PLUS productivity. Performs any other job related duties as requested by the Supervisor or Department Director.

What you will do in this role:

  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.

  • Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.

  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and other managers to create an environment of teamwork that supports improved outcomes and service.

  • Supports a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary.

  • Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including employee rounding, hourly rounds, and other initiatives.

  • Provides recommendations related to interviewing, selecting, and training new staff. Recommends and implements courses of action, including training and development, conflict resolution, personnel policy compliance, completion of performance evaluations, and/or disciplinary actions to ensure a competitively better organization.

  • Assists with staff scheduling. Manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.

  • Supports proper inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment.

What qualifications you will need:

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing

Licensure/Certification:

  • RN License in the State of Nevada - Required

  • AORN Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Required

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support - Required

  • PALS Pediatric Advance Life Support - Required

Experience:

  • Previous circulator/nurse educator/manager in the OR with a minimum 5 years recent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience implementing or managing OR scheduling/documentation systems.

  • Demonstrated competence with patient care information, preferably Meditech.

Skills:

•Advanced computer skills

•Strong planning, analytical and written skills.

•Basic understanding and ability to utilize the nursing process.

•Ability to utilize database, spreadsheet, word processing to conduct analysis of OR statistical reports.

•Clinically proficient in his or her area of expertise. •Understand and practice to his/her Scope of Practice as delineated by the State Board of Nursing in Nevada.

•The Clinical Coordinator staff nurse should be aware of the practice limitations for other certified or licensed staff whom he/she supervises or educates.

•Understand and resource facility wide Policies and Procedures, and act as a resource for Surgical Services staff.

•The Clinical Coordinator should be aware of both the departmental and facilities Chain of Command, reporting mechanisms and reporting incidents in the work environment in a timely and factual manner.

•The Clinical Coordinator staff nurse is an essential point of contact for staff, ancillary departments, physicians, patients and families, and is expected to communicate and interact in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

•Complete all annual requirements regarding Age Specific educational requirements from infant through geriatric.

•The Clinical Coordinator is expected to complete and maintain all annual educational requirements as determined by Surgical Services Manager/Director.

• The Clinical Coordinator should seek out clinical workshops or educational seminars in an effort to maintain clinical competency and increase clinical proficiency and efficiencies, skills, knowledge and abilities.

•The Clinical Coordinator is expected to know and understand Core Measures and actively support all Quality Initiatives.

•Creates NPR and department reports to provide statistics/data for Administration, QI/QM, Finance, Surgical Services and special projects.

•Produces staffing reports for pay period and month to date PLUS productivity.

•Assists as needed to cover for OR Analyst, Scheduling and Supply procurement staff.

•Coordinates with OR Analyst, Scheduling and Supply procurement to assist with new items/systems/processes, including staff education as needed.

•Department Kronos/timekeeper data entry, maintaining and storing time keeping records.

•Surgical Services Department staff scheduling, maintaining and storing staff scheduling records and Facility Scheduler.

•Supports hospitals staff as requested and coordinates with other department needs as they interface to Surgical Services nursing/scheduling documentation.

•In conjunction with the Surgical Services Director/Manager participates in the PI/QI program for Surgical Services.
