Austin Bridge & Road is seeking a Director, Project Controls to join our Corporate Office in Coppell, TX . Reporting to the Vice President of Project Controls, this role supports the Operations Department by developing, integrating, and implementing project control systems while ensuring compliance with operating policies. Key responsibilities include procurement, material management, job cost analysis, project performance reporting, document control, and updating the TAW2 Manual as needed. The position also oversees the Austin Bridge & Road operations training program and requires strong technical expertise in company policies, procedures, systems, and TAW2.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads operations-related training to ensure alignment with project requirements and corporate standards.

  • Manages scheduling and project coordination for timely and efficient execution.

  • Reviews subcontracts for compliance with contractual terms and company policies.

  • Oversees project startup activities to ensure proper planning and execution.

  • Establishes and maintains document control processes, including RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.

  • Monitors job costing practices to ensure accurate financial tracking.

  • Documents change orders and work plans to maintain clear project records.

  • Audits project control systems to address and resolve compliance gaps.

  • Ensures rapid implementation of project control procedures across all projects.

  • Provides administrative support for project controls and related systems.

Administration & Planning

  • Develops and conducts operations-related training programs.

  • Implements and monitors project control systems for consistency across projects.

  • Supports project startup and closeout activities, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.

  • Establishes structured document control systems for RFIs, submittals, correspondence, and meeting notes.

  • Audits project control systems and provides actionable feedback for improvement.

  • Manages closeout tasks, including completion reports and other wrap-up activities.

  • Supports standardization of cost coding structures across projects.

  • Assists project teams in preparing for audits and ensuring compliance.

  • Completes special projects as assigned by senior management.

Cost Performance

  • Assists project teams with monthly job cost reporting, ensuring adherence to corporate guidelines.

Quality Control

  • Ensures project teams issue all required contractual notices in a timely manner.

  • Monitors subcontract issuance and reports delays to maintain project schedules.

Safety

  • Collaborates with the Safety Department to develop and implement safety training programs.

Technical

  • Trains staff on company software, including project management and document control tools.

  • Enforces compliance with company policies regarding employment, safety, and labor relations.

  • Ensures administrative competence in managing Unit Price Bid Build, Cost of the Work, and Design Build projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 10+ years of experience in project controls, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.

  • Strong knowledge of project controls systems, scheduling, and cost management practices.

  • Experience in document control, job costing, change order documentation, and auditing project controls systems.

  • Proficient in using project management software and related tools (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, etc.).

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively manage teams and interact with stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong understanding of company policies and industry best practices.

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects and ensuring compliance with project control systems.

  • Ability to train and mentor staff on project controls procedures and software.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including safety, finance, and operations.

  • Flexibility to work long hours and occasional weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
