Welder Fabricator
Compensation: Up to $28.00 per hour Location: Lansing, MI Shift: Monday to Friday; 1st & 2nd Shift
- 1st shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- 2nd shift: 2:30 PM - 11:30 PM

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Welder Fabricator to fabricate and assemble metal components according to blueprints and technical drawings. This role offers growth and advancement, with potential for temp-to-hire placement for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabrication and Assembly: Weld together metal components of products such as steel bars, steel and aluminum details, fabrications, and plates using MIG/TIG welding equipment.
- Electrode Handling: Obtain specified electrode and insert it into the portable holder or thread consumable electrode wire through a portable welding gun.
- Equipment Connection: Connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as specified by Welding Engineer or Technician.
- Power Supply Management: Start power supply to produce electric current for welding.
- Arc Formation: Strike arc to generate heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece, joining edges of workpiece.
- Welding Guidance: Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Welding Positions: Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Examine Welds: Inspect welds for bead size and other specifications.
- Filler Rod Application: Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Workpiece Preparation: Clean or degrease weld joint or workpiece; prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
- Repair and Assembly: Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, position and clamp workpieces together, and assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Tack Assemblies: Tack assemblies together as needed.
- Weld Cleanup: Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter; preheat workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 1 year of MIG & TIG welding experience.
Mechanical Knowledge: Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in operating plasma cutting and machining equipment.
Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
Standards: Familiar with metal fabrication codes and standards.
Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as par
