DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under direction of the Senior Field Operations Engineer Technician, the Field Operations Engineering Technician is responsible for the preparation of both installation and or rehabilitation project procedures, shop details, and advanced bills.  This position may, at the Senior Field Operations Engineer Technician's direction, be required to aid in the coordination of work performed, perform estimates, and assist in scheduling work within the Field Operations Department.  The Field Operations Engineering Technician must become proficient in reading and interpreting contract plans and various owner specifications.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED: * Associate degree or greater in a related technical field. * In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience would be considered in structural steel and or precast concrete detailing, modeling or installation. * Must have demonstrated competence in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. * Skill must be demonstrated in preparing and interpreting drawings (2-D CAD and 3-D CAD), and other technical documents required for structural steel and or precast concrete installation. * Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD is required; experience in 3D modeling is a plus. * Skill in reading and interpreting contract plans and other technical documents related to structural steel and or precast concrete. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to work well within a team atmosphere, and an attention to detail. * Aptitude to gain an understanding of various company information and technical systems. * Proficiency in Windows operating system (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The FO Engineering Technician reports to the VP Managing Director.  However, this position works collaboratively with Sales, Project Management and Field Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Reviews contract documents, special provisions, and contract drawings when developing installation plans and procedures. * Working from contract drawings, prepares details for installation of girders, stringers, and other components. Investigates and identifies errors and omissions in contract drawings and field information and recommends corrections. * Working from contract drawings, field information, and drawing standards, prepares and checks installation and rehabilitation procedures, shop details, advanced bills and calculations of complicated geometric details. * Responsible for the back checking notations made by others to ensure accuracy of details. * Expedites various technical details to resolution as directed by management.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS: * Attends various meetings, training seminars, and special courses, etc. * When assigned, utilize CAD in the most cost-effective manner. * May at times be required to assist the Senior Field Operations Engineering Technician in his/her duties, which may include (but not limited to) data input, estimating, project coordination, and collection of field data. * Required to perform other duties of the Field Operations Department and Engineering as directed by management. * Acts as a liaison with personnel external to the department in expediting work. These external groups could include Engineering Department, sublet offices, consultants, contractors, and other personnel involved in the execution of department assignments.
