Air Education and Training Command Accounting Technician in Lackland AFB, Texas

Summary This position will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland NAF Resource Accounting Office. Employee may also sometimes work at the Ft Sam or Randolph NAF Resource Accounting Offices.. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week. May work up to 40 hrs/week. Employees appointed to a regular category position are eligible for benefits. Responsibilities Performs a full range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods. Classifies and verifies a wide variety of accounting documents in order to assure their mathematical correctness, completeness of information, and to prepare control sheets with appropriate accounting codes. Maintains double-entry bookkeeping journals and subsidiary ledgers, posting entries to establish accounts. Prepares monthly balances, reconciles accounts, and transcribes to general ledger for closeout of all accounts. Traces discrepancies, if necessary, to posting documents, computes operational expenses incurred by individual activities for accounting services provided, and assigns charges appropriately. Provide support to assigned activities personnel in preparing 1876's, ending inventory, etc. Provide training and coaching as needed to activity managers. Review, maintain, and file documents received on a daily basis according to guidelines established. Assist in Records Management of accounting files. Assist NAF Payroll with the review of time sheets and attendance reports as needed. Assist in correcting time and attendance of NAF employees. Prepare payroll reports on a as needed basis. Provide training to NAF Activities related to these duties. Support Private Organization Coordinator with review of PO documents from establishment to dissolution. Performs other related duties as assigned. May occasionally require working at an alternate location within JBSA. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in work which provided comprehensive knowledge of double-entry accounting methods, procedures, and techniques used in maintaining and analyzing all classes of accounts system encompassing a number of diversified activities; experience in reviewing financial settlements and reports. May substitute an accounting degree from an accredited university for experience or a minimum of 9 hours of accounting course work. Experience providing high level customer service to internal/external customers. Experience with accounting systems sufficient to flow individual funds from initiation through expenditure stages. Experience interpreting and applying regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge and understanding of the regulations, guides and precedents sufficient to interpret and apply them in a variety of accounting situations. 2. Knowledge of the accounting system sufficient to flow individual funds and specific monies from initiation through expenditure stages in order to trace discrepancies in the system. 3. Ability to prepare financial statements and reports. 4. Comprehensive knowledge of fund accounting methods, procedures, and techniques used in maintaining and analyzing all classes of accounts in accounting systems *Note: Those qualified applicants who meet both the minimum qualification requirement(s) and highly preferred criteria(s) will be considered best qualified for this position and will be referred to the selecting official(s) first for consideration.
