TERMINAL OPERATOR, KODIAK

REPORTS TO: Terminal Manager or Assistant Terminal Manager

STATUS: This is a full-time non-exempt position for which overtime benefits are received.

SUMMARY: Responsible for various duties in and around the terminal including the warehouse, main tank farm and/or commercial/cardlock fueling stations and marinas, where applicable.

A. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Opening and closing of tank farm, marinas and other facilities in accordance with terminal procedures.

Daily inspections of tank farm to assure all conditions are safe and properly maintained. Responsible for all of hose and pipeline testing for all trucks and facilities, logging all test results and assisting with annual inspection.

Completion of daily inspection sheets and reporting of discrepancies.

Preparation of meter sheets for all sales locations including the truck loading rack.

Keep warehouse, marina and general areas clean and free of debris.

Handle all areas of package inventory control such as ordering, stocking, tracking, organizing, counting at month end, reconciling, entering all receipts to stock, stock transfers and rebrands. Transport freight by forklift from the dock to the warehouse and account for inventory after transfer.

Monitor drip pans, drip barrels and used oil collection system. Remove as necessary and label containers. Collect and place used sorbents in designated drums. Maintain inventory of used drums, used oil drums and test and prepare for shipping.

Fill drummed fuel orders.

Gauge all tanks for fuel depth, water depth and temperature and record in the gauge book on a monthly basis.

Inspect area within the tank farm containment dike for water level and quality on a weekly basis. Drain water as required in presence of the Terminal Manager or Assistant Terminal Manager and record the procedure in the terminal safety inspection log book.

Perform monthly inspection of all spill equipment.

Perform daily Aviation fuel filter sump inspection and monthly quality assurance tests on Aviation fuel. Log all results of testing and handle audits from our Aviation fuel customers.

Assemble package stock order for barge delivery. Fulfill customer orders by filling 5-gallon pails, pulling and delivering package products to customers.

Record closing meter reading and collect meter sheets. Place meter sheets, invoices and cash drawer in office safe at close of day. Prepare daily cash and inventory reports for supervisor.

Perform fuel transfers to marine vessels. Operate tank farm and monitor dock end of fuel transfers, including performing API and Flash testing of received fuels. Compiles bulk terminal recap including float dock, warehouse and truck sales. Recap volumes from meters.

Perform maintenance at Terminal and all surrounding facilities as needed.

Provide professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers. Assist customers at terminal and front counter, delivering professional and efficient customer service in person and on the phone.

Be available to assist with other operations as necessary.

D. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)

Education: High School diploma or GED is required.

Experience: This position requires a minimum of one year of previous warehouse or yard, terminal experience and a good working knowledge of the petroleum distribution or related industry.

Licensure/Certification:Valid Alaska Drivers License required. Must be able to work directly with petroleum products. Must hold or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, 24-hour HAZWOPER certificate. Must be, or have the ability to become certified as, Person-In-Charge qualified for barge transfer operations, within 6 months of hire. Must have ability to safely operate a forklift.

Other Qualifications:

Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement of this position. Must possess the ability to make decisions according to pre-defined guidelines and accept responsibility.

Language Requirements: Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or service providers.

Physical Demands:This is an extensive physical position that requires constant mobility of varying types depending on the project. Individual may need to climb, sit, stand, crawl or kneel/bend while performing work tasks. May require walking primarily on a level surface and throughout tank farm and piping systems, or, walking on dock or uneven surface for periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required. Proper lifting techniques required. Must be able to occasionally lift 75 lbs., routinely lift 50 lbs., carry fuel hoses, operate a hand truck with heavy inventory (push/pull a maximum of 350 lbs with assistance of a pallet jack), operate a forklift and be on your feet for long periods of time. Must be willing to wear any required PPE.

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time and participate in highly active physical duties. Must be able to operate company vehicles. Must be able to use computer, telephone and other general office equipment.

Requires walking on varying surfaces, including hazardous and slippery conditions throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to move product. Proper lifting techniques required.
