Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Health Support Technician position in the School Health program providing assessment of student health needs, referrals for services, and liasion between schools, parents and the CPHU.

Reports directly to the Community Health Nursing Supervisor and assists the LPNs within the FDOH School Health program. Communicates daily with the FDOH team on day-to-day work duties. Reviews and updates health profiles on children to include: health records for student immunization records and student physicals. Ensures that immunizationsare up-to-date and the correct codes are on each 680 form and notifies school personnel as needed for changes or needs to be made within the school FOCUS system. Informs parents when their student is out of compliance for immunizations or physicals by phone or letter. Documents within student records attempts for notification to parents. Ensures proper health functions including screenings and immunizatinons at assigned schools according to deadlines and end of school year. Establishes and maintains effective communication and relationships with SDOC school health staff to ensure quality school health services. Serves as resource person for teachers, health aides, students and parents. Coordinates screening and serveillance activities with the schools. Ensures timely communication of planned screenings and works with school staff in planning and implementing screenings as appropriate and provides instructions for needs to complete screenings or shot clinics, as well as ensuring the schools have the necessary paperwork. Assists with referrals of individuals and families to appropriate local and state agencies. Contacts private/charter schools yearls regarding mandatory screening services available and required immunizations.

Completes statistical reports and assists SDOC school health nurses and documents as required (School Health Services Plan, Compulsory Report, Annual School Health Service Report, Kindergarten and Seventh Grade Assessment and Validation Report). Prepares and participates in School Health audit.

May assist FDOH Osceola clinics as needed due to absences, illness, etc. of nusing staff. Plans and participates in health promotion and disease prevention programs related to school children, school personnel and the community. Assists with development of educational and training material as appropriate.

Uses automobile as needed and maintains current Florida driver’s license. Maintains record of daily activities and work performed. Performs other related duties as required.

Responsible for timely submission of timesheets and EARs and certification. Required to attend all staff meetings, monthly School Health conference calls and one-on-ones. Completes mandatory trainings as deemed necessary. Provides advanced notice for time requests (2 weeks) unless an emergency.

Information Custodian responsibilities include maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health Security Policy 3 and associated Protocols and Procedures as it relates to Information Custodian, Delegation of Authority. This responsibility is to be adhered to 100% of the time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Ability to provide direct patient care and treatment. Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others. Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in the clinic.

Qualifications:

Minimum -

  • At least six months of verifiable experience as a Health Support Technician, Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) working at a Pediatric Office, School, Primary Care, Family Practice, Hospital, or other clinic setting. Experience includes patient preparation, triage, assessing, vital signs and medical documentation.

  • Willing to perform emergency duty during disasters before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days.

  • Valid Florida driver license.

    Preferred -

  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

  • At least six months of phlebotomy experience in a lab or office setting.

  • Experience working with the school-aged children or experience working in a daycare setting.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Creole and fluently speak, read, and write both languages.
