Description
A.T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking a part-time, non-exempt Boiler Plant Operator on the Kirksville, Missouri, campus. The position reports to the Boiler Plant Supervisor. The Boiler Plant Operator is responsible for boiler operations, limited equipment maintenance, and general upkeep of the Boiler Plant.
Major Job Duties
Operate and monitor boilers in Boiler Plant.
Investigate and record performance of off-site equipment.
Record data.
Perform minor repairs on boilers and equipment as needed.
Report issues.
Test water parameters.
Perform custodial duties for Boiler Plant.
Maintain safe working environment.
Assisting with scheduled repairs.
Preventative maintenance.
Wash down and clean boilers.
Inspect tools and equipment.
Check and stock supplies.
Maintain brine tank salt level.
Removing debris and washing out trough drain.
Assist with repairs in Boiler Plant and limited ancillary equipment across campus as needed.
Prepare equipment for inspections as required.
Handling of chemical treatment containment and equipment.
Assist with special projects related to Boiler Plant.
Checking UST manholes and clearing any debris.
Perform switching operations between fuel sources as needed.
Complete trainings as required.
Skills/Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required
Basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
Boiler operation.
Electrical.
Plumbing.
Steam service and distribution.
Underground storage tanks.
6-12months of experience preferred.
Required experience could be acquired on the job depending on the applicants background and aptitude.

Failure to maintain safety standards can result in significant property damage, severe personal injury, or death.
The Boiler Plant runs 24/7, typically with a skeleton crew of only one operator on duty.
Though efforts will be made to keep schedules from being erratic, Boiler Plant Operators are expected to have the flexibility to work any shift.
Shift times are as follows: 7:00am to 3:00pm, 3:00pm to 11:00pm, and 11:00pm to 7:00am.
Help may not always be readily available and Boiler Plant Operators must be able to independently exercise sound judgment in a timely manner.
