 Group Exercise Instructor, Recreational Services - Intermittent

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

 Will be discussed with hiring manager 

Basic Function:

Instruct assigned Recreational Services' group fitness classes and/or programs. Reports to Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness or designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Safely and effectively instruct creative group fitness classes. Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude with patrons and co-workers at all times. Take an active role in related Fitness and Wellness special events and promotional activities and be knowledgeable about other programs in the Fitness and Wellness area. Communicate effectively with the Recreation Program Officer or other designated supervisor via phone and email or in-person. Adhere to building policies and procedures as stated in department's staff manual; assist patrons as needed during emergencies. Attend all staff and specific area meetings as required. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma, GED, or other equivalent. Previous group exercise instructor experience or recent certification in lieu of professional experience.

License/Certification:

Current and nationally recognized National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) group exercise certification required. Must obtain American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED for professional rescuers and Health Care Providers within 30 days of being hired. Other licensures/certifications may be required for specific classes or programs.

Knowledge Of:

Proper group instruction protocol Developing, explaining and demonstrating group fitness programs Risk and safety practices relative to recreation services *

Skill In:

Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication * Handling difficult situations involving conflict with patrons * Interpreting and applying policies in a consistent manner Developing exercise programs which are safe, inclusive and diverse

Ability To:

Work independently and as part of team Mentor, train, and instruct patrons Work with diverse populations and a variety of situations in an effective manner Be detail-oriented and highly organized Apply state and federal regulations applicable to the department, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title IX, etc.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work -- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. May require occasional travel on and off-campus.

Working Schedule:

 ON CALL/AS NEEDED PART TIME TERM ASSIGNMENT.
