Job Summary

Oversee all aspects of the Yaghanen K-12 Language and Culture program including afterschool programming, summer programming and Susten Archeology camp programming. Coordinate any grant funded program elements that promote the growth and development of afterschool children and families (Kindergarten-Twelfth Grade),. Supervise staff, maintain on-going contact with families, work with all other program componentsand integrate developmentally appropriate practices. Work with Education Department staff to facilitate monitor, and ensure activities including required data-collection, assessment, and reporting functions proceed on-schedule and within the specified scope of work. Work closely with Education Administration staff to effectively meet needs of children, parents and families. Serves as part of the Education Leadership Team.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises the development and implementation of lesson plans for Yaghanen Afterschool Culture and Language program
  • Follows a consistent schedule that includes small and large group experiences, Dena'ina culture/language activities, effective activity transitions and social skills curriculum
  • Works in partnership with applicable agencies in advocating for responsive and effective services for children, parents, and families
  • Ensures continued programming in Jabila'ina Dance, Del Dumi drum group, Native Youth Olympics, Susten Archeology, Outdoor Education, Dena'ina Language lessons, and other applicable culturally relevant programming
  • Ensures year round lessons with scope and sequence are developed and used to deliver programming
  • Documents and compiles monthly reports, referrals, and parent contacts
  • Coordinates evaluative activities to include development and deployment of data collection tools, program evaluation/assessment, schedules for analysis and reporting
  • Compiles data and other information required for regular grant, council and committee reporting
  • Ensures adequate teaching/training materials/supplies are available to meet programatic needs
  • Works collaboratively with other Kenaitze Indian Tribe departments as needed to augment and improve Yaghanen program delivery
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • BS/BA in Education or related field, or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree

Experience

  • Three (3) years experience supervising/management in an educational setting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications; and computerized data management system

License/Certification

  • Valid Alaska Driver license, or obtain within 90 days, and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy to conduct Tribal business

Special Skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to develop developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum and material
  • Ability to collect data and implement and maintain tracking for outcome based curriculum and goals
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including strong expertise in cross-cultural communication
  • Communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
  • State of Alaska Teaching Certification

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.

Preference shall be given to eligible qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.
