Kenai Chamber of Commerce Cultural Center Coordinator in Kenai, Alaska

Under the direction of the Executive Director, this part-time position is dedicated to the Cultural Center to oversee the management and curation of the City of Kenai's extensive artifact collection. The Cultural Center Coordinator will play a pivotal role in creating new exhibits, maintaining the collection, and fostering collaborative efforts with outside organizations to enrich the cultural experience for visitors and residents alike. Hours for this position are flexible to meet demands which will include weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Artifact Management: Curate and rotate the City of Kenai's 4000+ artifacts to create engaging and informative exhibits. Ensure proper handling, storage, and preservation of artifacts in accordance with industry best practices. Catalog and record data on the collection, including provenance, condition, and historical significance.
  • Exhibit Development: Develop and implement creative exhibit concepts that showcase the cultural heritage and history of Kenai.
  • Visitor Services: Provide exceptional customer service to visitors, answering questions and providing information about exhibits and events.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records of the artifact collection and conduct regular inventories and audits to track the location and condition of artifacts.
  • Collaborative Efforts: Cultivate partnerships with local organizations, schools, and cultural institutions to enhance programming and collaborative initiatives. Coordinate joint exhibitions, events, and educational programs to broaden the cultural offerings of the Kenai community.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Preferred two years of experience in the visitor industry or a combination of acceptable training and experience. Experience in museum curation, exhibit development, or artifact management.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Ability to organize data and develop reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an enthusiastic and helpful relationship with staff, the general public, and other organizations.
  • Ability to express ideas concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
