How will you make an impact in this role?
This Engineering Director in the Technology organization is responsible for the design, delivery and modernization of our Credit and Collections Platform at American Express. As part of the role, you will be responsible for leading engineering teams across multiple platforms to define and drive future strategic roadmaps leading to the best user experience, agility and availability for our platforms. The Engineering Director will be working very closely with his/her technology peers and teams to achieve the above-mentioned objectives. Key priorities include leading innovation, technology transformation and leveraging modern technologies to accelerate and support business growth.
Key responsibilities include:
Rapidly gain a deep understanding of the current servicing ecosystem, including system integrations, decision engines, and operational management flows.
Lead a team of engineers to build innovative components and features for the platform while ensuring consistency with development methodologies, CI/CD, and automation.
Collaborate with the other peer servicing Directors to create centralized backend functionality and orchestration solutions that meet the needs across the portfolio.
Maintain top delivery standards by building secure and quality software that meets the needs of the business.
Monitor and ensure stability across multiple production and non-production development environments.
Drive both high-level and detailed technical designs and conduct design reviews as needed.
Collaborate and work closely with business leaders, product owners, technology leaders, scrum leads and engineers, actively participating in all phases of product development from envisioning to production implementation.
Recruit and retain top talent and build a successful team of engineers focused on continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, other Engineering, or related field required
Proven experience on large-scale technology engineering and formal management in a complex environment
Successful engineering and deployment of enterprise-grade technology products in an Agile environment
Large scale software product engineering experience with contemporary tools and delivery methods in a complex environment (i.e. DevOps, CD/CI, Agile, etc.)
Hands-on delivery experience in the fundamental components of the assigned portfolio’s primary technology stack(s) (some of them include Java, Relational Databases, Microservices, APIs, REST, React JS, etc.)
Preferred experience with backend automation and BPM workflows
Successful assimilation of new technology into an existing technology stack
Outstanding influential and collaboration skills; ability to drive consensus and tangible outcomes, demonstrated by breaking down silos and fostering cross communication process
Outstanding ability to work as a team with peers dispersed across the globe.
