Job Description

Responsible for optimizing patient throughput by proactively managing all patient admissions, discharges and transfers throughout the University Health (UH) system. Provides planning, direction and management of nursing staff resource to ensure that all shifts are staffed adequately. Responsible for meeting regulatory standards, complying with corporate policy and procedures, promoting internal and external customer satisfaction, and for appropriate financial management.

This leader supports UH’s mission and the plan for provision of care by ensuring patient bed assignments at the appropriate level of care, consistent with current policy and procedure. Collaborates with multiple departments within University Health (Health Sciences District, Lakewood and Behavioral Health) to facilitate regularly scheduled bed management meetings to identify and communicate bed utilization issues. Identifies trends, and reports relevant data using technology systems to assess and resolve barriers to patient throughput.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing.

  • Registered Nurse with current state licensure.

  • Two years Acute Care experience.

  • Demonstrated excellence in working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Proven customer service orientation, with a focus on building and maintaining professional collegiality and trust.

  • Knowledge of patient care resources within University Health.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with oral, written, and electronic formats.

  • Organizational and leadership skills.

  • Administrative skills to include critical thinking, multi-tasking, and prioritization, along with pro-active decision-making and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships.

  • Utilization management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSN.

  • Leadership experience.

  • Previous experience in patient flow processes.

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent experience.
