Description

The position internally is called "Senior Data Analyst". Under the general supervision of the Data Analytics, Program Manager for the PATH Planning and Analysis Division, the selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the strategic direction and execution of PATH’s data analytics, planning and reporting duties that will include multiple business areas such as fare collection, ridership and operational analysis, departmental/corporate performance measurement, long-range and revenue planning/forecasting, FTA/NTD reporting, Title VI reporting and related initiatives. These activities will support PATH and the Port Authority’s strategic goals as well as specific PATH divisions and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Data Analytics Program that aligns with PATH business objectives and leverages data insights to drive performance and customer experience using data management, data governance, data technology, data culture and data science.

  • Develop and maintain bespoke data analytics tools and models, and perform the analysis needed to extract business intelligence, advance operational planning, support capital planning, support CX, and optimize operations.

  • Provide the data collection, analysis and reporting of statistical information related to PATHs key business areas, such as fare collection, ridership, departmental/corporate performance measurement, long-range and revenue forecasting, FTA/NTD reporting, Title VI reporting and related initiatives.

  • Create and maintain databases and statistical tools using SQL, Python, R and/or related applications to provide effective and streamlined analysis to support standard and ad-hoc reporting requests.

  • Execute key projects and longer-term efforts that support PATH’s Data and Analytics Program, including rail transit passenger origin and destination survey, PATH signal system data, rail operations modeling and simulation, and related initiatives.

  • Engage and collaborate with PATH and Port Authority operations staff and management to ensure that organizational decisions, processes, and knowledge are aligned with and supported by appropriate data analysis and planning practices.

Qualifications:

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Social Sciences (with strong quantitative background) or related field.

  • At least five years of experience with increased responsibility in data collection, analysis and reporting.

Desired:

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Master’s degree in economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Transportation Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field

  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative techniques, including the ability to conduct research, analyze and interpret large amounts of data in order to address critical policy and business issues, including:

  • Knowledge of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.

  • Knowledge of information design principles and data visualization methods

  • Knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts, including hands-on development of attributes, facts, dimensions, transformations, dynamic dashboards, grids, graphs, scorecards, and statistical reporting

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and utilize analytical tools using SQL, Python, R and/or other querying and script writing in order to facilitate data collection, analysis and reporting.

  • Experience working with and understanding relational databases.

  • Domain knowledge in public transportation planning or public transportation operations.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, supervisory and project management skills related to establishing comprehensive analytical projects, with demonstrated ability to set specific timelines and deliverables to achieve goals.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise staff and manage tasks across multiple organizational lines with diverse employee groups and external organizations.

  • Demonstrated superior oral, written and presentation communication skills in conveying complex quantitative data in a simplified format.

  • Facility with examining trends, thinking through business questions, and helping to create data-driven solutions.

  • Ability to be a self-starter, make independent decisions, work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.

  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, transportation, and rail transit.
