Description
The Amazan Elastic Container Service (ECS) team is looking for an experienced Principal Software Development Engineer (PE) to help develop new solutions and technologies for Amazon ECS and related areas.
As an engineering leader in the ECS org, you'll be part of a highly respected team in a fast-paced agile environment that involves collaborations with other AWS teams across different locations. This is an opportunity to operate and engineer systems on a global scale, while touching and influencing large parts of the underlying AWS services. As a Principal SDE you'll define the architectures to build larger, more complex projects and services that surprise and delight our customers.
You'll lead the design and implementation of critical components, drive software best practices concerning quality, security, operational excellence, etc., and will help the team to deliver higher quality software faster.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or related field.
10+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading large-scale projects.
Proven track record of leading the delivery of machine learning focused systems.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Proven track record of making good technical judgement.
Exceptional communication skills.
Exemplary hands-on practitioner and lead by example
Great at working with the senior leadership within your organization to develop a long term technical strategy. You map business goals to appropriate technology investments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in computer science or related field (MS or Ph.D.)
- Data-driven and quantitative mindset. Grounded, detail-oriented, always backs up ideas with facts
- Ability to understand complex application data flows and bridge the gap between technical and business app requirement
- Track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of business such as large enterprises and start-ups
- 3+ years hands-on experience as a Principal Engineer leading multiple big-data engineering or Machine Learning projects
- Experience in Search Engine development, ML inference pipeline, Model performance optimization, Model quality monitoring etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $180,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $311,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
