This vacancy is located in the Rehabilitation Department at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
This posting may be used to fill vacancies in other divisions or units at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System within 90 days of closing.
This position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees), by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected for a full-time position.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST 1, 2, OR 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Examples of Work
Carries out recurring work on own initiative, developing treatment objectives and planning and adapting activities according to each persons needs.
Evaluates clients and patients to assess needs for occupational therapy in the areas of motor functioning, sensory integrative functioning, cognitive functioning, psychological functioning, and social functioning.
Instructs and trains clients, patients, and family members in therapeutic techniques and activities which lead to improved functioning.
Modifies or changes treatment methods according to changes in patients physical and functional status after periodic evaluations.
Assists in developing and implementing management policies and in-service training sessions for assigned special services.
Participates in multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary staffing of all clients and patients to update treatment plans.
Consults and collaborates with physicians and other professionals regarding patients needs.
Assist in the management of supply levels and conveys equipment needs.
Interprets recommendations for occupational therapy referrals and gathers data pertinent to each client and patient.
Constructs, designs, and adapts orthotic devices and adaptive equipment and assesses need for ordering other special aides to promote functioning at maximum level of independence.
Prepares and presents pertinent professional records and reports documenting rehabilitative progress.
Conducts home visits and collaborates with clients, patients, and family members in making recommendations for home accessibility.
Explains role of occupational therapy to other health care disciplines.
