Job Description

The Product Development Electrical Engineer creates electrical design engineering of individual parts and complete product lines of moderate levels of difficulty, complexity, or breadth of scope or for which few precedents exist. This position is responsible for the development of industry-leading concepts for Electric Bikes designed with a maniacal attention to detail and quality for people who want to go further in the great outdoors. The Product Development Electrical Engineer will oversee product management, responsible from ideation through prototyping, initial development, and final development for software, UX touchpoints, battery systems, and motor programming.

The Product Development Electrical Engineer will develop and prove out technical, manufacturable, and consumer-valued product concepts and technical abilities that ultimately support future products that provide a benefit to the consumer, while striving to achieve or exceed standards beyond state of the art for return value to the company.

The Product Development Electrical Engineer has a passion for life on two wheels and bringing electrical bikes even further into the future.

This position works a hybrid schedule and will be remote 2 days a week and in our Irvine, CA headquarters, 3 days a week.

Essential Functions:

  • Owns all product development activities for specified projects, from ideation and first prototype through commercialization and production

  • Responsible for portions of the Long-Range Product Roadmap as it relates to electrical components of all QuietKat bicycles and accessories

  • Develops and evaluates designs relative to applicable standards

  • Contributes creative solutions to problems identified along with Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and Brand Management; contributes creative concepts for problems yet to be identified

  • Maintains product certifications and safety compliance (example: UL, FCC, Certifications, Testing, CPSC Compliance).

  • Manages App development for QuietKat products.

  • Manages controller design for QuietKat products

  • Responsible for designing, understanding, and modifying motor controller system to meet product requirements.

  • Responsible for designing, understanding, and modifying battery management system to meet product requirements.

  • Works with operations group, and suppliers to improve cost and ease of manufacturing

  • Creates drawings, models and working prototypes

  • Tests functional prototypes to verify design intent through virtual or physical methods

  • Responsible for testing protocols and UX Maintenance of all components in IOT/Smart products.

  • Lead, Manage, and Direct work by outside design firms (both for physical product and software)

  • Meticulously update and create design documentation such as engineering drawings, product and material specifications, bill of materials, etc., to assure quality in product designs

  • Keeps informed of the latest developments in the field by reading trade journals, individual contacts, and attendance at appropriate meetings and trade shows.

  • Takes on minor, major level projects.

  • May be involved in communication with suppliers overseas using chat and video conferencing technologies. This may require work beyond the typical 9am-5pm hours.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (BS ECE), Manufacturing & Design Engineering (BS MaDE) or equivalent work experience

  • Between 5 and 10 years in the electrical products, app development, smart-products industry or similar life experience with components, design and concepts

  • 3-4 years of Bluetooth, OTA, WiFi, or other wireless communications systems

  • 2-4 years of control system design

  • Solid understanding of power systems

  • Past experience with battery powered/capacitor driven systems.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of UL Certification, FCC Regulations, and CPSCA standards for product lines

  • Experience acquiring and/or integrating manufacturing operations

  • Project Management experience to include great communication, scheduling, budget and resource planning, team building, and risk management.

  • PMP Certification considered an asset

  • Experience with Battery Management System (BMS) a plus.

  • High competency and experience with app development.

Pay Range:

$107,500.00 - $168,100.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
