Job Title: Flight Test Engineer Team Lead

Location: Huntsville, AL (Hybrid)

Canvas is seeking a Flight Test Engineer Team Lead! The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, challenging environment supporting the 715th Flight Test Squadron, Flight Test program. This position will lead a small team that provides range integration, training, test planning and execution for employees and execution teams executing flight tests and supports development of flight test execution documentation. This position is considered a task lead position located in Huntsville, Alabama and a senior position in the area of training (personnel and team) and flight test execution. This individual works as a member of an integrated product team to develop and test new capabilities for the US Air Force involving various aircraft (B-52/F-15/F-16) and weapons systems. This position requires an individual with motivation and initiative to support developmental flight testing in a dynamic high-tempo environment located at geographically dispersed locations. This person will typically perform the following kinds of functions: Initiates, supervises, and/or develops requirements from a project's inception to conclusion for complex programs; provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to personnel, program and project staff; provide range integration guidance, develop critical execution products, provides detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission critical challenges/issues; Consults with client to define need or problem, supervises studies, and leads surveys to collect and analyze data to provide advice and recommend solutions.

Duties:

  • Perform work in the areas of test planning/requirements and execution

  • Conduct basic and applied research to evaluate current plans and required plans for test execution

  • Assist in training new flight test employees and Execution Teams (ETs)

  • Assist customer in planning and executing hypersonic flight tests

  • Develop training materials and curriculum using Microsoft Office products and/or courseware software

  • Assemble/analyze training metrics; compile responses after training

  • Present training materials in a classroom, computer-based, and simulation-based training to prepare Execution Teams for day of launch and on-console operations

  • Develop plans, processes, test documentation and checklists

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of test plans and documentation

  • Close coordination required with customer, who is located at Elgin Air Force Base and contract personnel located in Tullahoma, Tennessee

  • Understanding test flights, B-52/F-15/F/A-18 flight tests and range testing

  • Revise and update training records in various databases and SharePoint

    Requirements:

  • Master's degree in applicable discipline and 10+ years of experience

  • Experience leading Integrated Product Teams and Cross Functional Teams in a managerial role.

  • Developing test planning documentation for an emerging weapons program.

  • Worked and presented material to military officers and senior leadership.

  • Forecasting test assets, range requirements, and documentation development.

  • Integrating with program offices and prime contractors.

  • Developing, presenting, and assessing training in a classroom setting and hands-on environment or by computer-based learning.

  • Using Learning Management Systems, Advanced Electronic Classrooms, Computer Based Training (CBT), and Corporate Enterprise Training Activity Resource System (CeTARS).

  • Experience with current Department of Defense testing, test design and performance, knowledge of Department of Defense programs and organizations, and an understanding of Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) operations are required.

  • Self-motivated/self-starter; possesses strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to lead a team, work in a team environment, and be accountable for both individual work and teamwork.

  • Proficient with Windows-based PC software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and possess technical writing skills.

    Other Essential Job Functions:

    Travel in support of testing accounts for approximately 20 - 25% of duty time and may include overseas locations1 - 2 weeks per year.

    Security Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Secret security clearance.
