MD Anderson Cancer Center Grant Program Manager - Pediatrics Research in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Grant Program Manager position is to serve and provide support to grant preparation for applications submitted for internal and external funding opportunities. This position will complete and submit all pre-award documents and submit proposals. This involves problem solving, reasoning, independent decision-making, analyzing, planning and communicating orally and in writing. This position requires the individual to interface/communicate with PIs, department staff members at all levels within the division of Pediatrics, other departments within MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as outside funding agencies.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Pre-Award Grant Preparation

-Manage the overall proposal submission process for all PIs and co-investigators within the department.

-Coordinate research grants and contracts preparation, auditing, budget planning and management with internal and external sponsors as well as cooperative groups.

-Manage pre-award activities connected with grant and contract proposals, including initial planning, budget forecasting, proposal development, funding and obtaining internal and external approvals.

-Negotiate grant application changes internally with Principle Investigators and externally with sponsors.

-Develop and manage systems to provide information regarding internal processes and communicates all changes to PIs and co-investigators.

-Ensure all pre-award activities are completed and forms are completed properly including budget, budget justification, Just-In-Time requests and support documentation.

-Compiles final grant submission, ensuring all federal and institutional compliance regulations are adhered to before submitting to the Office of Sponsored Programs.

-Prepares internal and external annual progress reports to NIH, Development Office or the appropriate awarding agency.

-Ensures timely and accurate submission of required reports/documents for manuscripts and grants by tracking stages, alerting investigators, and initiating response processes.

-Coordinates grant and protocol development, writing and editing as requested.

-Maintains a basic understanding of current award funding and protocol guidelines.

-Ensures compliance with policies and procedures affecting the submission review, approval, activation, regulation, tracking and reporting of awards and protocols.

-Oversees and assists with accurate preparation of grant forms and appendices. -Proofreads, copies, and edits submitted materials.

Post-Award Processing

-Maintains activity files on all active departmental grants ensuring electronic and hard copy files are up-to-date and accurate for reporting to the PIs.

-Prepares and maintains a ticker file of internal and external grant progress reports, continuation deadlines, no-cost extension (NCE) and financial reporting.

-Serves as Effort Coordinator for the department and works with faculty to timely and accurately complete all effort certifications.

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Experience: Two years of grant management experience such as grant writing, grant submission and financial administration. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one year basis.

Preferred Experience: Experience in submitting grants and protocol submissions for IRB approval.
