MD Anderson Cancer Center Director, Operations & Maintenance in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The primary purpose of the Director, Operations & Maintenance's position is to direct the operations, maintenance, emergency response, alteration, and repair of institutional facilities. Portfolio managed will exceed 1.3 million square feet.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Operations and Maintenance for Campus and Facilities

• Implements objectives, policies and plans for on-going operations for a mixed real estate portfolio of buildings and property containing ambulatory clinical environments, laboratories and office spaces in Houston suburbs. Buildings managed can be up to 400,000 square feet.

• Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the operation, maintenance, repair, emergency response, housekeeping and alteration of assigned portfolio and spaces using a combination of MD Anderson Cancer Center staff and contracted staff. Assures compliance with standards by various healthcare agencies

• Creates and executes the Emergency Response Plan. Coordinates response efforts during events which impact or suspend normal operations due to inclement weather or other emergencies in accordance to established Emergency Management Plans. May serve as division section leader in emergency situations.

• Ensure that facilities are operating in an energy efficient manner.

Program and project management

• Implements a computerized maintenance management system for preventive maintenance (PM), repair and dispatch work orders utilizing standard operating procedures. Oversees the PM schedule & resource plan.

• Lead and manage customer service initiatives within assigned portfolio.

• Lead and manage process O&M improvement initiatives that optimize institutional resources and operations.

• Leads minor repair and renovation projects in assigned portfolio.

• Regularly monitors and takes actions on metrics including by not limited to facility condition assessment findings, energy performance, preventive maintenance compliance, backlog, and other work order performance, Facility Condition Assessment Findings.

Development and Management of Budget

• Develops and manages the expense budget for operation and maintenance of all assigned properties.

• Prepares and executes a capital repair and renewal program in accordance with UT System requirements and MDACC accounting guidelines of assigned properties.

• Complies with fiscal controls as outlined in the annual attestation standards and policies.

• Identifies opportunities and implements changes to reduce operational costs through efficiency improvements and energy conservation.

Additional Discretionary and Other Duties Assigned

• Provides divisional leadership, coordinating with other peers and operations on the assigned SME role.

• Serves on various institutional committees to provide liaison and consultation on Facilities

• Participates in activities of community or professional organizations and may represent MDACC as appropriate.

• If assigned, may conduct research on key topical areas and develop targeted presentations for departmental personnel.

• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Bachelor's Level Degree

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture

Preferred Certification: Registration as Professional Engineer or Architect.

Required Experience: Ten years of related experience in the management of properties and related services

Preferred Experience: Ten years facilities operations and maintenance experience in an academic medical center or healthcare environment to include five years of leadership experience.
