Cimarron Software Services, Inc. Propulsion Engineer in Highlands Ranch, Colorado
Cimarron is seeking Satellite Propulsion Engineers to support the Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO) satellite system program in Highlands Ranch, CO. GeoXO is NOAA's next-generation Geostationary Extended Observations satellite system, designed to revolutionize how we monitor Earth's atmosphere and oceans. GeoXO will deliver critical data to improve forecasts and increase preparedness for severe weather, air quality events, and harmful algal blooms. By enhancing public safety and delivering significant economic benefits, GeoXO represents a transformative step in safeguarding lives, property, and our nation's resilience.
As a Satellite Propulsion Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of satellite propulsion systems, which include both engines and fuel systems essential for precise propulsion control. You will work on the end-to-end development cycle, from conceptual design and specification to integration, testing, calibration, and validation.
This is an onsite position.
Key Duties:
Create detailed engineering models and drawings for satellite propulsion systems, including propulsion engines, fuel systems, and related components. Design and develop the subsystems for propulsion control to meet mission-specific requirements and operational performance. Develop system architectures, including analyzing propulsion system parameters, interfaces, and trade-offs for optimal performance. Generate clear and concise design specifications, implementation plans, and associated technical documentation for propulsion systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the design meets mission objectives and complies with all applicable standards and regulations. Participate in the integration of propulsion systems into satellite platforms. Support integration efforts, conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests, and perform validation testing to ensure system performance meets design expect Provide technical support for troubleshooting and system diagnostics during integration and testing phases. Lead calibration activities to ensure the proper functionality of propulsion components and systems. Conduct system validation, including performance evaluation under mission conditions. Strong knowledge of propulsion system components (e.g., thrusters, valves, fuel systems) and their integration into satellite systems. Proficiency in CREO, including experience with the tubing tool, harness tool, and drawing creation. Experience with system-level design, including specifications, integration, and testing. Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and control systems as they apply to propulsion systems. Familiarity with satellite and spacecraft operations, mission objectives, and orbital mechanics. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment. Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:
Experience with chemical spacecraft propulsion technologies Knowledge of satellite integration and testing processes, including environmental testing (vibration, thermal, and vacuum). Familiarity with space industry standards (e.g., ECSS, MIL-STD) and regulatory requirements. Proficient in simulation and modeling tools for propulsion systems (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, COMSOL). Previous experience working with space agencies (e.g., NASA, ESA) or commercial space companies. Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5. Familiarity with ASME standards and best practices. Experience reviewing technical drawings for accuracy and compliance. Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and their applications. Hands-on manufacturing experience. Strong technical writing skills for documentation and reporting. Experience in secondary structure design and integration.
