Summary:
The Manager of Patient Access is a key member of the Revenue Cycle leadership team, responsible for providing leadership to a range of Patient Access functions, which may include the Admitting & Outpatient Registration areas, Surgery Registration, ER Registration (24/7), Scheduling, & Medicaid Eligibility.
This key role is responsible for improving processes, promoting operational efficiency, enhancing the patient experience, and meeting regulatory compliance guidelines. This requires active engagement and collaboration with operational and revenue cycle leadership as well as patient access team members.
Responsibilities:
Recruits, hires, orients and leads a team of patient access professionals. Maintain daily operations within a defined budget, ensuring that expenses and are monitored and maintained.
Leads and develops team of patient access professionals with effective verbal and written performance feedback using the organization’s performance management toolkit. Create and encourage a cohesive, engaged team environment.
Monitors and evaluates the performance of patient access operations across assigned teams/functions, facilitating positive patient experience. This would include goal setting, tracking and reporting of metrics, development and implementation of action plans to achieve, the review and implementation of new technologies, standardization of policies and processes and the development of communication tools, both for team members and internal customers.
Schedules and assigns duties to personnel to ensure proper coverage for the various functions. Uses scheduling process to shape labor utilization within organizational productivity metrics.
Maintain familiarity with applicable rules and regulations and ensure assigned patient access functions are compliant with applicable rules and regulations. Ensures staff are aware and compliant with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. Participates in accreditation activities and initiatives.
Establishes, maintains, and modifies work standards and processes for assigned work group. Recognize opportunities for productivity improvement and cost savings. Leads assigned process improvement projects and ensures resources and timelines adhere to the department budget.
Other information:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration or similar, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Five (5) years of work experience in a healthcare business function
Experience leading a team
Preferred
Experience managing a healthcare front office or revenue cycle team
Experience with EPIC or a similar large-scale electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) system
Certification or formal training from Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM), or the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).
