Job Summary

Performs general carpentry work to include laying out, construction, repair, and renovation on all USM buildings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs general carpentry work in the construction, repair, and renovations of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions

  • Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions and replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tiles, and equipment as assigned.

  • Selects, cuts, trims, and processes lumber as specified using hand and power tools and woodworking machines such as power saws, band saws, jointers, planes, and drill presses.

  • Sand cabinets, work tables, and other wooden articles.

Minimum Qualifications

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Skill in determining the kind and use of standard tools and equipment of the profession as well as the ability to maintain and care for hand and power tools.

  • Ability to perform maintenance, to follow instructions, and to interpret drawings and diagrams.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

  • Ability to operate office machines, including calculator, and personal computer
