Reference #: 4499987 THE POSITION Do you have experience in the regulation of food safety? If so, this may be a position for you! The Division of Food Safety plays a critical role in protecting Pennsylvanians and our visitors by regulating the tens of thousands of eating and drinking establishments, retail food stores, and food manufacturers found across the state to ensure compliance with food safety laws.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK In the role of a Food Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting technical work within an agriculture inspection program. This will involve assessing whether establishments are in compliance with both state and federal regulations that govern standards of grade, purity, quality, and sanitation. Your duties will include thorough inspections to ensure that food products meet the required criteria for safety and quality, as well as identifying any areas of non-compliance that need to be addressed promptly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Overtime: Occasional for training and facilities operating on non-workdays and outside of work hours. Travel: Occasional overnight travel required. Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh, or Northampton County. If applicant does not live in Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh, or Northampton County, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties and the workday will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle. The selected candidate may need to travel to counties other than Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh, Northampton Counties to assist with coverage of various specialty inspection types, specifically Dairy and milk regulated facilities. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in the inspection of produce farms, egg processing facilities, dairy farms, milk processing plants, or related food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, dairy or animal science, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirement: All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
