Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power substations and distribution systems. Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex power distribution systems for commercial and industrial clients. Lead an engineering team in developing specifications, calculations, design drawings, bills of materials, and other documents for power distribution or substation projects. Act as the Technical Engineer responsible for ensuring project deliverables meet customer standards and industry codes. Develop design alternatives, perform engineering calculations, analyses, and create estimates for system improvement projects related to substations and distribution systems. Support project execution by acting as the Owner's Engineer, addressing project RFIs during construction. Provide technical input for preparing engineering and construction cost estimates and schedules for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects. Serve as the main point of contact for customers, fostering relationships throughout project execution. Conduct site surveys for major upgrade projects to support engineering and design efforts; participate in pre-construction job-walks with clients and contractors as needed. Maintain knowledge of power system modeling and protection philosophies and schemes. Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance to support their professional growth.
Responsibilities

Essential Skills
Expert knowledge of medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
Proficient in power system analysis using ETAP or similar software.
Experience with distribution system modeling and protective device coordination.
Skilled in preparing drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical documentation.
Ability to prepare and maintain construction project schedules.
Strong analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power systems preferred.
PE License required.
Minimum of twelve (12+) years of work experience in the electric utility industry.
At least 5 years in a Lead, Supervisor, or Project Manager role.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to motivate and oversee daily responsibilities.
MS Project experience is a plus.
Work Environment
The team consists of 35 engineers, split into teams of 10 based on military base or project assignments. Up to 25% travel to client sites outside of CO, typically 2-4 days per month. Office days are Tuesday and Wednesday. The company offers an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, life insurance, 401(k), profit sharing, Paid Time Off, and holidays. The position includes a short-term incentive program, bi-weekly pay, and PTO accrual.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.Salary range: $150,000-$180,000/annual based on experience plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
