Metro Health Radiation Therapist Technologist in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Metro Health (now the University of Michigan Health-West) is looking for - Radiation Therapist Technologist - Cancer Center Radiation Oncology.

This position is responsible for providing radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the physician in accordance with established standards and practices.

Requirements:

  1. American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology certification (ARRT/RT(T)). Registry eligible candidates must obtain RT(T) certification within one (1) year of employment.
  2. Knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
  3. Knowledge of the human anatomy and proper positioning of the patient to provide treatment as prescribed.
  4. Basic Life Saving certification within 3 months of employment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Delivered accurately, a prescribed course of therapy as directed by a Radiation Oncologist. Deliver treatment with care, respecting the patient's rights and privacy. Maintain proper communication with the patient. Report any unusual reactions or events to the designated personnel and assist in emergency treatment. Observe radiation safety measures for the patient and staff.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment records, films, summaries, and boost schedules.

Exhibit competency in the proper operation and use of all radiation treatment machines and CT simulator.

Perform simulations using departmental procedures, interacting with MDs and Physicists; maintain accurate documentation of simulation set up data, and assist in the planning and fabrication of immobilization devices, boluses, or custom shields.

Participate, accurately measuring and recording, in quality control procedures within the department including but not limited to: machine warm-up, service requests, incident reports, chart checks, and chart rounds.

Participate in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities as assigned.

Maintain scheduling of all patients to provide: smooth and efficient patient flow, with the patients' needs in consideration, adequate lead-time for treatment planning and custom block fabrication, and proper pre-planning for any field reductions, boosts, or modifications as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.

Participate in the verification film process for all treatment areas including: actual filming initially and weekly, comparison to simulation films, documentation in chart and submission to Physicians for final approval. Ensure approval of port films in a timely manner, and make changes as necessary.

Participate in and assist physician and nurse during HDR procedures(n/a at this time)

Monitor, evaluate, and properly refer each patient daily for side effects, nutritional status, and prevention of generalized and localized side effects. Reinforce recommendations given to the patient by the Physician, Nurse, Dietitian, etc.

Bill accurately and in a timely manner for: treatments, simulation, port films, and treatment devices.

Maintain inventory of supplies (including stocking of gowns), as needed in each technical area assigned.

Maintain effective communication and working relationship with physicians, staff, patients and public.

Demonstrate problem solving and follow-through attitude to resolve issues/concerns.

Maintain annual compliance with competency skills checklist.

Completes other duties (assigned or unassigned) to fulfill department needs.

Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
