City of Gettysburg Police Officer in Gettysburg, South Dakota
Must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, be a citizen of the US, and have a valid SD driver's license. Certified Law Enforcement Officer preferred but not required; must obtain a Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission certificate within one year of hire. Must pass a background investigation, criminal record check, medical and psychological evaluation, and drug screening prior to hire. Must be willing to work all shifts to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays per schedule. Maintain order and protect life and property by enforcing local laws and ordinances. Perform a combination of the following duties: patrol a specific area; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; apprehend and arrest suspects; serve legal processes of courts, maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times; maintain police logs and files; handle complaints and grievances; enforce state laws and city ordinances; conducts all investigations and works with local community on police matters.
